In this weeks episode of The Heroes Reborn Rewatch, Cory and Tom need to stop themselves from growing too fast as they discuss episodes 7 & 8, June 13th Parts 1-2.

Chapter Seven 'June 13th Part 1':

Volume: One

Written by: Adam Lash & Cori Uchida

Directed by: Allan Arkush

Original airdate: October 29, 2015

Synopsis:

Bennet and Hiro walk the grounds at the Odessa Summit one year ago and Bennet suggests maybe calling in a bomb threat instead of trying to find the numerous bombs already planted. Hiro rejects the idea, explaining that they cannot step on butterflies for fear of changing the future. They are greeted by a member of Primatech/Renautus named Stevens who thinks this is PastBennet and tells them about Claire having arrived at the Summit but wanting to sneak in and keep a low profile.

Mohinder meets with Angela on the outskirts of Odessa as she presents him with the content of her dreams she’s been having, namely how she has tried to make Erica believe she was working with her, and that Erica is planning on some changes to the day’s schedule, including shooting Mohinder, and already having killed his own research team. Mohinder is aghast at the very notion she suggests, explaining that Kravid has funded his research for years. She tries to explain the connections between Renautus and Primatech and about the extinction event coming that Erica wants to happen, but Mohinder rejects her and leaves angrily.

Erica heads to a house in the suburbs where they are holding Phoebe in a high tech back room. Erica tells her she needs to continue making more darkness so that it covers the whole summit area and if she doesn’t her brother Quentin will burn along with everyone else.

Meanwhile, Dennis, Luke and Joanne’s son, is messing around near a window and exposes himself to sunlight which burns his skin due to a medical condition he has. Luke is excited about the summit because he feels that one of the evos may be able to help his son and his condition so he can lead a normal life, but Joanne is more cautious. In the end, they do go to the summit and are impressed with many of the powers they see demonstrated, drawn to one evo in particular who can create snow and ice from water, impressing everyone.

PastBennet shows up to the summit and talks with Stevens asking about Claire, but he’s confused seeing as how he told Bennet earlier about her. He’s further confused when PastBennet asks about Hiro because again, earlier Stevens talked to Bennet who was with Hiro already. He then informs PastBennet that Erica made changes to the security for the event, and PastBennet heads off to find her.

PastHiro meets with Hachiro Otomo about his Evernow game and the man pleads with Hiro to follow Erica’s plan to save them all, but Hiro refuses. Hachiro regretfully uses his ability to transfer Hiro inside the game into a prison.

Back at the Summit, Bennet and Hiro go to his office and find the plans for the summit, trying to figure out which bombs they need to try and stop, but they’re interrupted when PastBennet returns. No sooner does he return, does Erica show up. PastBennet is angry at her having changed the security details, but she explains her obviously bigoted beliefs to him that he is being benched and he is taken away to be secured elsewhere on the premises. Bennet wants to save PastBennet but Hiro explains PastBennet will be fine since Bennet is here. Angela shows up and mistakes Bennet for PastBennet, telling him Claire is in the hospital. He rushes to the hospital and is met by a nurse, Anne, who tells him it’s too late as Claire died in childbirth, survived by her two newborn children, a boy and girl.

Mohinder meets Molly who senses something is wrong, and he explains he can’t reach his research team, making him uneasy given Angela’s predictions. He is then summoned by Erica, handing off his copy of his book to Molly before leaving. Erica tells him about the change in the schedule, and he calls her out, citing Angela’s visions. Harris shows up to take Mohinder into custody, tasing him.

In the hospital nursery, Angela explains about the importance of the children to the future of humanity, but Bennet is trying to get the doctor to allow him to see Claire which he won't allow. Anne comes in and introduces them to the newborns but he needs to leave because he has to see Claire.

As Harris prepares to take a drugged Mohinder away, Hiro shows up with his sword and starts to fight him. When Harris comments that he can’t fight them all, Hiro realizes he can use his abilities to look at the future (Doctor Strange Infinity War style), and he realizes that there is no future that works out for Bennet and his plan.

PastBennet, in his cell, is shocked to see Hatman show up, seemingly another tool of Erica’s. Hatman talks a big game about helping Erica, but slyly reveals he is actually there to help PastBennet, subduing the guard by getting him to pick up a dropped penny, effectively taking away the man’s memories.

Bennet goes to the morgue and mourns his daughter under the bed sheet when Hiro shows up and reveals that they can’t save the summit because there are simply too many butterflies that would be stepped on. When they go to return home however, Hiro can’t teleport them there, as Phoebe has finally made enough darkness and it has started to take over the sky, causing it to blackout as everyone stares up in wonder.

Mohinder, having chased down another Harris clone, suddenly sees that his strength has left him, while outside, hundreds upon hundreds of evos see their abilities suddenly vanish. Dennis runs after his balloon that one evo accidentally let go of when he was in shock that his powers stopped, and Erica’s bombs finally detonate and chaos ensues. Hatman and Molly help PastBennet to his feet as they take him to a hospital. PastBennet asks Molly to find Claire, but she sees that Claire’s body is in the morgue and tells Bennet she can’t find her, going off to check with the hospital staff. In Japan, Hachiro is shocked to see news reports that Hiro died at the Summit, checking to make sure he is still trapped in-game. Luke saves an evo that was trapped under debris, then returns to Joanne revealing that the workers said they can’t be out there searching due to safety.

Bennet and Hiro meet with Angela who says that rather than trying to save the past, they need to concentrate on the future, explaining that she has seen visions that one of the newborn twins will someday save the world. Anne comes in for the babies’ feeding time and lets Angela take the girl, while she hands the boy over to Hiro who is nervous but settles in easily. Bennet realizes that the birth of the babies is what he decided to erase from his mind in order to hide them from Erica. Angela then realizes that this is not PastBennet but the future one. Bennet formulates a new plan for Hiro to take the twins back in time and raise them so that they will be turning 15 at the time of the extinction event. Before he and Angela leave to go back in time, they name the children, Malina for Bennet’s mother, and Nathan for Angela’s son (Nathan, who died a few times, and was eulogized a few times, just in case anyone forgot). Meanwhile, back at home, Anne prepares a quick birthday cupcake for her son, Nathan.

At the hospital, Bennet sees Erica giving photo ops and starts to follow her. PastBennet, also in the hospital, sees Bennet and starts following him. When he sees Bennet start to raise his gun to shoot Erica, PastBennet leaps onto Bennet, causing his shot to hit Erica in the thigh. Quentin, trying to find his sister, pulls her out of harm's way into the stairwell.

Back-issues:

Hiro Kanagawa played Hachiro Otomo. In 2006, he voiced Mister Fantastic himself, Reed Richards, in the 26 episode animated series Fantastic Four. He’s a “that guy” with over 200 credits to his name including Dark Angel, X-Files, Elektra (the movie), Supernatural, Smallville, Caprica, Arrow, The 100, The Man In The High Castle, and many more.

Chapter Eight 'June 13th Part 2':

Volume: One

Written by: M. Raven Metzner

Directed by: Allan Arkush

Original airdate: November 5, 2015

Synopsis

Erica begins her attempt to frame Evos for the disaster while the news outlets air a video of Mohinder claiming responsibility for the attack. As Erica walks out of the hospital, she is shot at by Bennet with PastBennet tackling him and causing the bullet to go astray, only hitting her in the leg. She witnesses the two Bennets however as Quentin tries to get her to reveal Phoebe’s whereabouts.

Bennet explains to PastBennet what happened and why he’s there with PastBennet, shocked he would do this. PastBennet is saddened to hear of Claire’s death but more distraught that Erica saw them which could potentially change the entire future. Molly tries to find Hiro but can only find his ability, not Hiro, but determines that his power is somewhere in Odessa. Bennet asks Hatman to help PastBennet forget everything so Erica can’t use him. However Harris shows up and knocks out Hatman, capturing PastBennet before the memory wipe. Harris brings in Matt Parkman to try and find out what PastBennet knows, revealing that he sold his power to the highest bidder so he and his family can live a good life. As Matt starts to get info from PastBennet, a penny rolls out towards his captive and PastBennet steps on it, and in doing so, all his memories are erased, causing Matt to be unable to find out more. Hatman attacks Harris, knocking him out. Matt is conflicted about what to do and decides to let them go (wow Matt. Wow. Such a great guy).

Hachiro calls Erica asking about how Hiro could possibly be dead when he is trapped within the game. She thanks him for his service and he realises he’s been locked out of the game. He quickly comes up with his own solution, Katana girl, a backdoor way of getting into the fortress to free Hiro. Hachiro uses his powers to pull Katana Girl from the video game into real life. She attacks him at first, but he quickly tells her he is her father, and then goes on to educate her about her life, telling her that she is his daughter and suffered a great accident which is why she doesn’t remember a lot. Later, while he teaches her about cooking, he sees Harris has arrived for him. He bids his daughter goodbye, telling her they both have a destiny to fulfill, and leaves, saying they will be together again someday.

Hiro and Angela end up in the past, but not in the right place. Hiro however can’t teleport them anymore as they realize that the baby boy is a Petrelli and likely has the abilities that Peter and Arthur had: the ability to borrow or steal powers, resulting in Claire’s ability being stolen, causing her to be able to die and now Hiro being stuck in the past. Angela tells them the babies must be raised separately to avoid them losing their powers. Hiro is put in charge of the boy while Angela takes the daughter.

Carlos is on trial for an incident during a military maneuver, in which it is revealed that a fellow officer, Farah, is the one who actually saved the lives of the soldiers but didn’t want the notoriety lest her powers be discovered. Carlos gets the medal but he later tells Farah he doesn’t feel worthy of it. He wants to continue seeing her romantically, but she refuses, deciding to move away to be safe, breaking up with him.

Luke and Joanne put up a picture of their missing son, fending off a bigot who tells them that evo children pictures need to be placed separately. They then see Dennis being brought in on a stretcher, unfortunately killed in the explosion. They return home and mourn their child when the evo Luke saved shows up at their door to thank Luke for saving him. Joanne is angry Luke would stop to save an evo instead of trying to find their son. Luke tries to defend his actions but Joanne is manic and aggressive, slapping the evo. He fights back, which causes Luke to jump to her defense. The evo starts to freeze Luke’s neck but Joanne grabs some scissors and repeatedly stabs the evo until he is finally dead. As Luke reasons her actions away, asking her if she’s alright, she slowly takes on a twisted smile, gaining satisfaction from killing the evo.

Erica talks with Harris and he reveals that besides two Bennets being there, there are also two Hiro’s. She tells him to get rid of the extra Hiro and Bennet.

Bennet and Molly go to find Hiro and discover him aged and old and without his powers, revealing that he has raised Nathan the past 14 years along with Anne, having their own little family together. Nathan is pleased to finally meet his grandfather and anxious to learn and meet more of his family. Harris shows up however and holds Nathan at gunpoint. Luckily, Hiro has trained his son well and he easily sends Harris away with his power to the other side of the room where Bennet manages to shoot him down. Together, Bennet and Nathan go to warn Angela that Erica is onto their plan. She tells Nathan to not get too close as he could steal his sister’s power. Angela discusses things with Nathan and how they will save the world in Odessa. Later after they leave, Angel explains to Farah what must be done to save the world, leaving her in charge of Malina.

Quentin goes to Erica in the hospital and despite playing some word games with him about the deal they made when he saved her, but she eventually lets him see his sister. They have a happy reunion but Quentin is shocked at what Phoebe has done, who defends Erica and her actions.

Bennet puts Hatman in charge of watching over Nathan and for Molly to keep tabs on the twins. Nathan sends Molly to India so she can tell Mohinder’s mother that he isn’t responsible for the Odessa incident. He then sends Bennet back to the future. Unfortunately, more Harris clones show up and Hiro tells Nathan to take his mother Anne and Hatman away while he confronts them. Hiro gives him a 9th Wonders comic and explains it helped him once and will hopefully help him. The three of them escape as Hiro grabs his swords and faces off against the clones for… reasons? Elsewhere, Nathan is distraught, wanting to go back to save his father, but Anne tells Hatman to take his memory so he won’t, unfortunately needing to erase all memories of Hiro. Together, Luke and Anne head to Denver to start a new life alone.

Bennet finds himself back at the Renautus site with Quentin looking for him. As Bennet tells him what happened, Quentin gets on the phone without Bennet hearing and reports Bennet’s plan to hide the babies for the last 15 years to Erica, revealing himself to be working for her now and making me hate the character after just sadly eulogizing him in our previous episode (Thanks Tim. That’s just greeeeat. Two characters destroyed in one episode. I’m pleased as punch).

Back-issues:

M. Raven Metzner got his start penning the script for the Elektra spin-off movie starring Jennifer Garner. Shortly after that, he created the TV series 6 Degrees (an intriguing tale of intertwined destinies reminds us that romance, success, peace, or forgiveness might be right around the corner, but they can also be lost in an instant). He has written on many other shows, some more than others, and had different producing roles, including most recently serving as a consulting producer on Star Trek Discovery.

RW655 - Heroes Reborn Rewatch E05-06 - Lion’s Game

In this weeks episode of The Heroes Reborn Rewatch, Cory and Tom are sneaking around and finding new teammates as they discuss episodes 5 & 6, The Lion's Den and Game Over.

Chapter Five 'The Lion's Den':

Volume: One

Written by: Holly Harold

Directed by: Jeff Woolnough

Original airdate: October 15, 2015

Synopsis:

Taylor, Bennet, and Quentin rush out from the room where Molly and the other evos were being kept. They discover a giant seed bank, the type needed after an extinction event that would help repopulate the world. Taylor decides to trick her mother into coming to her so they find the information they need.

Farah and Malina stop in a town in Canada so Farah can meet a contact, Hatman himself, now identified as Casper, while Malina hides. Unfortunately, the contact never appears and Farah returns to Malina with a Harris clone following her and confronting them, asking where the baby is. Farah tries to turn invisible but Epic locates her and they fire on her. Malina activates her powers and sends Harris and his partner flying away with a gust of wind and they run away. They run and try to hide but are quickly discovered again. This time, Phoebe joins Harris and somehow prevents Malina from using her powers. Farah is shot and hands Malina a blood stained envelope, telling her to run and read the contents for the answers she needs. Malina hides in the bed of a big rig and escapes.

Carlos goes to the police station to confront Captain Dearing about his missing nephew and the Pastor. Dearing tells the desk sergeant he will be there in a moment but he is stopped by several of his fellow cops who just tried on the new Epic glasses and realize their captain is an Evo. They tranquilize him and take him into custody. With the captain drugged, they begin driving him away, but El Vegandor appears and stops the car using some flares, and his newly enhanced strength to punch the cops out. He tears the door off the police van and threatens Dearing, forcing him to take him to his nephew and the pastor, using the stolen money as leverage. Dearing agrees.

Erica tells Harris Prime to get the sword back to her house and they discuss the Evernow cosplayers. Erica knows that they are their customers and have to be careful how they are treated. Harris creates another clone to find Miko in the crowd with the use of Epic. Miko uses her acrobatic ninja skills to jump a wall and protect her and Ren from being found however. They soon find a Harris clone taking the sword to a truck, as Ren places his phone inside the truck to track it.

Erica attends a demonstration from Dr. SciGuy (Richard Schwenkman) of another aspect of their program in which a large box is touched by a scientist with a special glove, and disappears. Erica takes a call from Taylor and returns to him to talk to her but accuses Taylor of using drugs again. Bennet reveals himself and holds Erica at gunpoint as he tries to get answers. Erica provides none and tells him that he is the one who wanted his mind erased, revealing they worked together up until the past year. She also reveals that Hiro died along with Claire at the Odessa incident. Harris shows up and manages to turn the tables, taking Bennet, Taylor and Quentin captive. As they decide what to do with them all, Miko busts through the window, taking the sword and unsheathing it, allowing her to disappear and Quentin to knock out Harris. While Bennet goes to find Erica, Miko reappears nearby, back with Ren. She prepares to enter Evernow with Ren vowing to join her via his own game controller and laptop.

Tommy is catalogued and implanted with a tracking device. The lead detective, Agent Cutler, reveals that he is actually adopted but before he can do anything else, Tommy uses his powers and escapes to Emily’s house, telling her what he found out. She convinces him that adoption isn’t the end of the world and to go talk to his mother. Meanwhile, back at the police station, Hatman shows up and asks Agent Cutler “a penny for your thoughts.” Tommy confronts his mother and she tells him that no matter what, he is her son. Hatman shows up and explains that he isn’t his father but has been keeping watch over Tommy for the past year. Anne tells him that she took him away because she didn’t want him to try and save his dad, thereby losing them both. Hatman says that Tommy is that important and that they shouldn’t have run as they could have avoided the whole hospital and tracking implant incident. He tells Tommy the world has one last hope for survival and Tommy is a part of that. Tommy refuses to take part and teleports away.

Luke returns to his home to find Joanne not there. He reminisces over pictures and videos of his son and then calls his work partner, asking him to pay him for his share of the practice, giving it up to him, saying he is atoning. He then activates his power, setting a picture of him and his son on fire and lets the entire house catch on fire and burn as he walks away.

Erica returns to Renautus and a new simulation reveals that with the Earth’s poles reversing, they are more susceptible to solar radiation and a giant coronal mass ejection is on its way sooner than expected with 96% total devastation on earth predicted.

Back-issues:

Pruitt Taylor Vince plays Hatman, otherwise known as Casper. He’s a “that guy” who has shown up in everything over the years from Bird Box to Agents of Shield, The Mentalist, Hawaii 5-0, The Walking Dead, Deadwood, Alias, CSI, Doctor Doolittle, The X-Files, City Slickers II, JFK, and I Know My First Name Is Steven.

Danika Yarosh plays Melina. She has around 30ish credits, but she may still be an up and coming actress. She is a lead in two movies scheduled for release, 13 Steps (a buried dark past that has riddled our world with fear and divisiveness while a group with different backgrounds must overcome their respective "demons" and beliefs, right the wrongs of the past and save the world from an ultimate evil. Based on true events), and also The Get Back Girl (a brilliant young woman plots a tumultuous path to physical and psychological freedom by exacting revenge on her parents' killer, overcoming personal demons and a doctor prescribed pharmaceutical drug dependency to ultimately find love and happiness). Chapter Six 'Game Over':

Volume: One

Written by: Nevin Densham

Directed by: Gideon Raff

Original airdate: October 22, 2015

Synopsis

Bennet beats up Harris for information while Carlos beats up Dearing for the same. Carlos gets the upper hand by threatening him with his stolen money, learning about a place called Sunstone Manor that pays $10,000 per Evo capture. Harris reveals the Evos have been moved to another facility, Phoebe is returning from Canada, and he promises to take them to Erica. Taylor gives them an updated power dampener to control Harris as she leaves to try to find Francis. She eventually finds the room where Francis was kept, but he’s already been moved. She infiltrates Erica’s office and copies secret files off her computer. Later, after taking a pregnancy test that turns out positive, she makes a video for Hero Truther revealing everything she knows about the operation, explaining where the missing 600 evos have been, exposing her mother.

Miko, inside the game, finds the man dressed as her father but he reveals he is just a guide, and shows her where she needs to go, and that her mission is to save the master of time and space.

In the real world, Erica talks with Richard who says that he knew Hachiro Otomo and his daughter and Miko is NOT her. He explains that they have been reprogramming Evernow to stop her progress, cloaking the fortress from detection. With Ren googling for the insignia Miko saw in the game, they find a Renautus building in Midian they head out to infiltrate. Once there, she enters the game and with Ren joining her they easily defeat the undefeatable giant in the game guarding the fortress. Unfortunately Ren’s battery dies and he is kicked out of the game and hides inside a box in the building.

Elsewhere, Luke runs into Malina who was trying to use her powers to get a candy bar from a machine, with Luke accidentally shorting out a soda machine nearby. He then calls Joanne to tell her he sold his practice, and burns the house down before he buys a yacht and jumps off of it into the water wearing a backpack full of bricks, ready to kill himself. Malina sees him nearby and uses her powers to raise the water up and save him. They talk and he vents about losing his purpose in life and she vents back, showing him the person she has been trying to find, Tommy. Luke recognizes him and tells her where he last saw him, and the two head off together.

Tommy goes to Emily and vents his frustration, but he then takes the two of them to Paris because he needs to get away. However, when the guards start scanning for visitors to the Eiffel Tower, Tommy stands up to them, refusing to back down before teleporting himself and Emily away as more armed guards gather. She tells him about comic books and superheroes, as if Tommy was never aware of this, and they find an issue of 9th Wonders he has always been searching for that depicts a character that looks like him. With her help, he begins to understand his destiny and he returns them home. After she expertly manages to remove the tracker from Tommy’s wrist, he thanks her for helping him and the two kiss.

Dearing takes Carlos to Sunstone but tells him that the only way in is if he has powers because they swab for them at the entrance. He gives Carlos a vial, telling him it will create a false positive on their scanners and get him in, but after he drinks it, Carlos passes out.

Miko exits the game and finds herself face to face with Harris, Benent, and Quentin and she attacks them all, but Harris gets away. Bennet convinces her he is an ally and there to stop Erica just like her. Together they find Richard and Bennet shoots him in the foot to get information from him who explains that Miko is not real as the real girl died in a car crash and that this Miko was a computer virus programmed by her father. Miko in the game begins fighting an evil doppelgänger as Richard reveals that the only way to free Hiro Nakamura from the fortress is for her to sacrifice herself.

Ren, escaping from the box that was brought inside the building with others, finds Bennet, Quentin, and now Miko. She tells him what she must do to complete her mission but Harris clones and Phoebe show up. Phoebe’s powers dampen Miko’s powers because that’s a thing now, meaning Miko can’t return to the in-game world. Bennet and company lock themselves behind the bulletproof glass doors to buy themselves some time. Miko and Bennet keep the Harris clones busy while Quentin goes to Phoebe trying to talk her out of what she’s doing. He tackles her and she momentarily gains some semblance of the old Phoebe but she believes Erica gave her purpose and continues her attack, filling Quentin’s mouth with her dark strands. Bennet and Miko take out two of the Harris clones with Bennet then knocking out Phoebe from behind. Miko enters the game again and defeats her doppelgänger easily and then plunges her sword into the prison door holding Hiro. She disappears as Hiro appears in the real world. As more Harris clones show up to take down Bennet, Hiro freezes time. Hiro agrees to take Bennet back in time to the Odessa incident.

RW654 - Heroes Reborn Rewatch E03-04 - Mask the Many

In this weeks episode of The Heroes Reborn Rewatch, Cory and Tom hit the road and travel south as they discuss episodes 3 & 4, Under the Mask and The Needs of the Many.

Chapter Three 'Under the Mask':

Volume: One

Written by: Seamus Kevin Fahey

Directed by: Greg Beeman

Original airdate: October 1, 2015

Synopsis:

Malina walks into the snowy landscape, told to get ready by an invisible woman. As the sky changes colors and dark clouds gather, she lifts her hands and makes them all disappear. Malina worries that she won’t be ready but the woman tells her the world will need her soon.

Bennet takes Quentin to a hospital at his insistence but while there, a doctor recognizes Bennet and calls security. Bennet takes a guard captive and learns that he was there on June 13th and puts a man in the hospital. As the guard shows him the security footage, first seeing what appears to be his daughter lying dead on a hospital gurney, then Molly Walker, and then noticing that the footage moves out of time back and forth. Bennet theorizes that Hiro was involved. He gets Quentin and the two escape with Bennet distraught that he had his memory erased, wondering why.

Joanne is gleefully happy at having obtained the files on so many powered individuals, but between her and the radio news talking about evos, Luke is looking distressed and tense. He goes to shut off the radio but a spark jumps from his finger to the dashboard and the car breaks down. They end up walking to a diner where they eat and Joanne again is trying to get Luke to be more excited about their goal, but as he cuts his steak, the knife heats up and cooks his steak from rare to burnt. Later, he asks for a moment alone as he walks behind the diner and starts to glow from his hands and then throughout his entire body.

Miko battles the guards at Yamagato Tower and is winning the battle until Harris Prime enters the fray, easily subduing her and taking the sword. Elsewhere in the building, Erica Kravid, head of Renautus, talks to her board about their Epic system in preparation for the launch. She is intrigued by Harris’s info about Miko and the sword which they know to belong to Hiro Nakamura. They are confused that Miko claims to be the daughter of Hachiro Otomo, wondering how that is possible. Later, Harris goes to try and force Miko to talk through means of torture, asking her if she has her father’s power and asking if she remembers the incident and the death. She has no memory of what he is referring to as he opens a briefcase containing several knives, saying he is going to help spur her memory. Ren, who managed to sneak into the building using his ingenuity, runs into the room causing a distraction. Miko grabs a knife and cuts Harris’s hand off and she and Ren escape, with Ren telling her saw Erica take the sword with her earlier. Back in the room, Harris rises up and his hand grows back into place, but then his severed hand grows an entire second body as well, resulting in two of them.

Taylor takes Molly to a plane, leaving behind the gambler, Francis, who was not cleared for the flight. With Molly being uncontrollable, they tranquilize her. Molly later awakens and asks if Taylor understands that Renautus plans to kill her, and will likely kill her boyfriend Francis, or even worse as they are learning how to take evo’s powers and utilize them however they wish.

Carlos watches as corrupt policemen take a woman captive, but after they throw her out a window due to her not cooperating with them, she flies away. Carlos begins to back away but makes some noise accidentally and tries to run from them. Luckily, the pastor has shown up and uses his power to turn them both into smoke and they disappear inside another part of the building. Carlos, in the guise of El Vengador, later finds the woman and her friends, telling them that the man from earlier traced her and is on his way to capture them. They manage to escape, but Carlos faces off against him, soon discovering that the man himself has super strength. Carlos takes a severe beating but manages to jump out a window and get away.

Harris flies above the arctic in a helicopter, relaying messages back to Erica. They land and begin setting up a base of operations and within moments, Epic is operational. In Midian at Renautus headquarters, Erica is glad to see her daughter Taylor is back safe but won’t answer her questions about her boyfriend Francis. Quentin and Bennet break in and manage to distract Molly’s guards and get her way from them. Molly however is scared of Bennet and dead set against going with him. She leaves them and is immediately recaptured by Renautas. She is strapped into their machinery as Erica talks to an entire roomful of people about Epic, which is a way to track every powered human in the world remotely, using social glasses. She demonstrates its abilities by revealing someone in the audience who has powers and is taken away.

Tommy readies to go hang out with Brad, but his mother Anne, doesn’t believe him, getting the truth out of him that he was going to a party. He reveals that he has been getting text messages from someone, warning him to be safe. She forbids him to go, fearing being discovered, but he uses his powers on himself and teleports himself behind her and leaves the house. At the party, it’s revealed that he used this power to get beer for it, but he ends up leaving with Emily to walk her home. As they talk outside, Hatman watches from afar, smiling, until Tommy’s mother appears and places a gun on his head. He tells Anne he made a promise to follow the plan and keep an eye on Tommy, but she warns him to stay away from them. They get into their car and drive away but as they do, something causes their car to crash.

Back-issues:

Rya Kihlstedt plays Erica Kravid, head of Renautus. We’ve seen her before in season 1 of Seaquest, episode 14 “Greed For A Pirate’s Dream” (after gaining advance knowledge of volcanic attack, SeaQuest needs to convince treasure hunters to cease excavations, or die trying). Chapter Four 'The Needs of the Many':

Volume: One

Directed by: Jeff Woolnough

Original airdate: October 8, 2015

Synopsis

Joanne shoots an evo on his doorstep with Luke silently expressing remorse, wondering about the man’s family. As they stay at a motel, Luke asks her to sit out the next hit, but she feels his head, feeling how hot he feels and figures he is sick and needs rest. She leaves to take care of business and he uses his powers to heat up a glass of water, throwing it against the wall in frustration. He looks outside the window and sees many colored lights glowing in the sky. Later as he and Joanne drive to the next hit, she comments again on how lucky they are to have the list and Luke tells her that he has spent a lot of time mourning their child and wonders if he was going to lose her as well, citing their differences in how they reacted to their first killing. He reveals his powers and sets the list on fire. She stops the car and aims the gun at him but ultimately lowers it and leaves him, walking away.

The invisible woman, Farah, finds a frozen butterfly in the arctic. Malina tells her she is ready and brings the butterfly back to life, followed by bringing an entire swarm of frozen butterflies back to life as they start to head south, stopping at one point for Malina to try out her powers on the ground, causing a giant tree to suddenly grow. They’re seen however by a man who tries to radio for help but Farah turns invisible and knocks him out.

Tommy uses his powers to get he and his mother Anne out of the crashed car, and then he sends her to the hospital. Tommy waits for news about his mother but the nurse tells him she needs a blood transfusion. Tommy volunteers to be tested, despite Emily’s protests. Eventually however, they discover his blood is not compatible. His mother’s only hope is a blood bank several states away so Tommy and Emily teleport there and back with the blood. The nurse tells him to run, because his blood was sent to a federal database. Before they can get away, several men approach him telling him if he teleports away, his mother won’t get the blood he just delivered.

Meanwhile, Ren makes a post on social media asking his followers to join them in Midian, dressed up in their Evernow cosplay, hoping to use it as a distraction to help him and Miko break into the building. On the plane, Miko wonders why Harris made the reference to her being dead and Ren tries to cheer her up with humor. Upon arrival at Midian, dozens of cosplayers surround Miko and Ren.

Jose uses his ability on his grandfather’s car to try and fix it, when Carlos realizes that he can fix and upgrade the car with bulletproof glass and use it as part of his budding arsenal against the corruption in his town. He decides to upgrade the El Vengador costume to include kevlar and gears that can enhance his own strength. The Pastor is unimpressed but is more understanding when Carlos says he is doing this because he wants to believe in something bigger than just himself. Jose comes home to find the car completely fixed and working as Carlos drives off. Jose, frustrated he couldn’t ride with him, throws a bolt away and hears it fall somewhere under the floor. He finds the hidden staircase and discovers the El Vengador costume and mask, taking it upstairs. The pastor shows up and Jose reveals his powers to him, but the super strength man shows up and while Jose gets away, he tases the pastor before he can activate his own power.

Quentin and Bennet capture Taylor and force her to help them into the building, preying on her distrust of her mother. Taylor talks to her mother to find out about Francis, but Erica avoids the question, giving Taylor more reason to help Bennett and Quentin. They make it inside but are stopped by several Harris clones but Bennet manages to take them out easily. Inside they manage to find dozens of Evos strapped to tables, wired into a machine. Molly wakes up and grabs Bennet’s gun, holding him at bay, telling him they all knew what was at stake and to do whatever was necessary to keep them safe. She reveals that she never told Erica where the location of “it” was and that if she tells Bennet what “it” is, he won’t go back and then they’re all dead anyway. Molly then takes her own life.

Harris tells Erica of Ally’s death and she is livid when he reveals they still haven't found “it.” Her only consolation is that Epic will still work, but only within 100 yards of an evo. He mentions they found a signal in Canada that showed promise and she tells him he needs to find the child, ordering him to take The Shade with him, revealing that Phoebe is still alive and seemingly possessed by her powers.

RW653 - Heroes Reborn Rewatch E01-02 - New Odessa

In this weeks episode of The Heroes Reborn Rewatch, Cory and Tom are moving again and hiding away as they discuss episodes 1 & 2, Brave New World and Odessa.

Chapter One 'Brave New World':

Volume: One (Awakening)

Written by: Tim Kring

Directed by: Matt Shakman

Original airdate: September 24, 2015

Synopsis:

In Odessa at a summit, Evos and Humans gather to work on building a future together. Unfortunately, something happens and thousands of people are killed. Bennet is among the people gathered and while he survives, he cannot find Claire, and believes her to be dead. The media reports that Mohinder Suresh has claimed responsibility for the devastation.

Over the course of the next year, Evos are on the run for fear of being locked up, with one man escaping captivity, and cutting off his own hand to rid himself of his bonds so he can use his powers to escape. Some people are escaping to Canada, but after seeing that border agents are checking for people with powers, one mother and her powered son, Tommy, quickly turn their car around.

Later, the boy heads towards a church, giving the correct password of cockroach to get inside, and finds himself in a meeting with other powered humans, one of which is his high school coach. Outside, a man in a hat watches. Inside, as the gathered people discuss what to do concerning their powers, and disagreeing on their next moves, the boy gets a text message from his mother and rushes out. Outside as the boy rushes away, he bumps into a food delivery man on a bike and they exchange a few words before the boy rushes off onto a bus while the man in the hat again watches everything.

Back inside the church, one of the men in the group, Luke, tells them his story of how his son was killed in Odessa and realizes there is only one thing to do about people with powers. The door bursts open as a man runs in telling them all it’s a trap, followed by a woman, Joanne, with a gun drawn and joined by Luke, they start shooting the Evos. Despite fighting back, the Evos are killed, and the whole church set on fire as Luke and Joanne leave.

At Pinehurst School, Tommy tries to blend in but he is caught staring at Emily, the girlfriend of school jock Brad, who notices and punches Tommy. Tommy starts to raise his hands to use his power but stops himself as Brad walks away laughing. Emily later apologizes for Brad and the two share a moment, with her asking him to apply for the job at the ice cream parlor she works at, mentioning that he has been there a lot, even earning almost enough holes on his store card for a free ice cream.

Later, Luke and Joanne sit at the ice cream shop that Tommy frequents, having found his punch card on the floor of the church but Luke wants to go and focus on El Vengador. Joanne wants to finish the job here first however. Tommy, having successfully interviewed for the job there, sees Luke and goes to him, asking him what happened after he left the church. Before he can say anything, Joanne returns from the restroom and shows Tommy her gun and she and Luke force Tommy outside. Emily notices and follows them and Joanne decides to kill Emily and Tommy right there to take care of the problem but Tommy activates his powers and makes the two adults disappear. Emily promises to not reveal Tommy's secret.

Bennet, now working as a car salesman again under the name of Ted Barnes, works his job but notices a mysterious car parked outside. Later at home, he notices the same car and decides to confront it, meeting Quentin Frady who tells him he’s been looking for answers about the Odessa tragedy. Quentin brings up the idea that something has been done to Bennet since he can’t seem to recall things from his past. The cops arrive, having been called by Bennet’s fiancee, to arrest Quentin. Later, Bennet opens up a secret cubby hole and looks through his old documents, finding the name of an optometrist in the area with the words “see more clearly” written on the back. The next day he goes there, but the receptionist is not very helpful, telling him he’s never been there before. After showing her his card with the writing on it, she pulls a gun on him but The Haitian steps out from a doorway, telling him to wait across the street for him. The Haitian gives him his old glasses back but as Bennet smiles, The Haitian starts to choke him. They struggle and in the end, The Haitian’s gun is turned against him and he is shot. The Haitian tells Bennet that he himself asked The Haitian to kill if he ever came to find him. As the Haitian dies, he tells Bennet that “it’s coming.”

At a school In LA, a former soldier named Carlos is ready to give a speech about his exploits in the war and his commendations and medals received. While inspiring the students, he slips alcohol into his soda. Later, he talks with his nephew Jose as they walk home, discussing the bad blood between Carlos and the boy’s father Oscar who took over the family auto shop. As Jose cleans up some graffiti he made of the local vigilante superhero El Vengador, Carlos and Oscar have words before Carlos leaves. Later that night, El Vengador watches over the city and sees a woman running away from two men. He intervenes to help her but she pulls a gun on him and shoots him. Realizing he was set up, he gets away back to his base of operations. Carlos goes to his brother’s auto shop and sees a blood trail, leading him to his brother who is dying of a gunshot wound, revealing that he was El Vengador.  Carlos confesses to having doubts about what people think about him and his medal but Oscar dies. Carlos talks to his nephew the next day and comforts him. After Carlos leaves, Jose uses an ability to push his hand through the roof tiles.

At the police station, Hat Man enters the interrogation room to see the bike delivery man, asking him what he remembers from the night he was knocked over. The man starts to speak but wants to know if there’s a reward, given that Tommy was seen running away from a building that shortly caught on fire. Hat Man pulls out a penny from a briefcase full of them and gives it to the man, telling him, penny for your thoughts. Later, when the actual police detective enters the room, asking the delivery guy about what he saw, the man can recall nothing at all.

A young girl named Miko sits alone in her apartment in Japan when she is interrupted by a young boy named Ren at her door. He tells her he is very good at a particular video game called Evernow and received a message in the game to come to her address. His hope was to find a way to unlock a game character called Katana Girl, something no one has ever done. Miko claims to know nothing about it and kicks Ren out. He returns later to try and prove his point about Katana Girl, explaining how she looks just like Miko. She again kicks him out but starts investigating it herself, going into her missing father’s office and finding a sword hidden under the floor. When she unsheathes it, she finds herself transported into a video game world.

Elsewhere, a young girl looks up at an eclipse in the sky surrounded by bright colors and looks behind her, telling someone that she doesn’t think she can control it for much longer.

Brad sees them through the window and tells Tommy later that he will leave him alone if he helps him by using his powers, taking him to his house. He introduces him to his drunken stepfather, revealing that he beats him and his mother and wants him to disappear too, like the flower. Tommy is aghast at the thought but sits near the man. After he slowly raises his hand towards the man, he sees it and asks him what he thinks he’s doing. Tommy quickly runs out of the house, but Hat man shows up and asks the stepfather for a moment of his time, showing him a penny, and being ushered inside. Later, Brad finds Tommy and hugs him, thanking him, and telling him he’s free and will watch over Tommy from now on, while nearby Hat Man watches, smiling. Bennet reveals that he thought he forgot things due to the trauma of the explosion, but he thinks differently now. Bennet explains they need to find Molly Walker, hoping to get to her before   does. They enter the gated off site, the building remains still everywhere, and make their way down into the basements, eventually opening a secret room and looking through files to find information on Renautus and Molly Walker. They do find a box full of information about other powered individuals but Quentin finds a file that indicates Claire and Molly were NOT at the Odessa Summit. Bennet gets angry at Quentin’s interest in Claire and the whole ordeal, but he reveals that he is doing this because of his missing sister. Bennet reveals that after Claire revealed herself on TV, the two had a fight and they hadn’t talked for four years. The two make a pact to be truthful to each other in order to work together.

Ren returns to Miko’s apartment to apologize for his behavior but finds that she seems to be in the video game. He sees her being attacked and quickly logs in as his avatar and helps defeat her attackers. She continues on in the world to find her father while Ren remains behind to distract other attackers. Later, Miko is knocked out by an attacker but reappears in the real world. Ren cares for her but when she awakens she says she needs to go back into the game to save her father who has been taken to the game equivalent location of Yamagato Tower. She makes it there in the game but finds herself ambushed. She resheathes her sword and finds herself in the real world lobby of Yamagoto Tower and starts to fight off many attacking guards.

After Oscar’s funeral, the Pastor wants to talk with Carlos, telling him he hopes the brothers reconciled, telling him that Oscar died because he stood up for the underdog. The man is worried about being killed by his boss, but under Carlos’s duress, reveals the name Captain Dearing. Carlos goes to the Pastor and reveals what he found out. The Pastor reveals that Oscar was running an underground railroad to help Evos escape to Canada and needs his help to get two people out of the country tonight. The pastor then shows Carlos that he has a power himself.

Luke and Joanne find themselves in a kids room without a door, or light switch, or window with no means of escaping.
