RW553 - Heroes Rewatch S01E14-15 - Distractions Run!

In this weeks episode of The Heroes Rewatch, Cory and Tom refine their skills and pocket the spoils as they discuss season 1 episodes 14 & 15, Distractions and Run!

Chapter Fourteen 'Distractions':

Volume: One

Written by: Michael Green

Directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Original airdate: February 5, 2007

Synopsis:

As Claude and Peter walk the streets, invisible, he explains that right now his powers are showing up as a reflex and needs to learn how to consciously start accessing them. He then grabs a lady’s purse, tosses it into Peter’s hands, and runs off, leaving Peter to suddenly appear visible as the lady sees him. After talking with the police, Peter complains about almost being arrested but Claude waves it off, explaining that they need to find out what’s holding him back, before realizing it is all the people in Peter’s life holding him back, telling him he needs to let people go because people suck. To convince Peter, Claude says they will go check on his girl, Simone, and see what exactly is going on with her. When they see her, she has returned to see Isaac and are hugging each other. After they leave, Claude  keeps pushing Peter to forget about people, but Peter pushes back, until Claude finally pushes him off the roof, telling him to just fly. Peter however falls onto a car and is injured. Miraculously, he stands up and heals himself. He tells Claude that right before he landed, he thought of Claire and how she made him feel, making him realize that he can access the powers if he can remember how they made him feel. Suddenly, Peter’s head begins to hurt and his eyes go white as he starts experiencing the pain from his visions but Claude punches him hard and he is knocked out.

In the prison, Dr. Witherson works with Niki, trying to get Jessica to come out, using a metronome as a tool to assist them. Jessica does come out, and immediately breaks her handcuffs and attacks the doctor, leaving her beaten and tased before the guards get in and knock her out, returning her to her cell. Later, Linderman’s lackey, Aaron Malsky comes to the prison to inform her that all charges have been dropped, as another inmate has confessed to the crime. Niki begs them to let her stay there, but to no avail, and she is sent home, where Micah is overjoyed, asking her to play some games. As she looks into the mirror, she tells Micah she’ll be right there, revealing that she is Jessica, telling Niki to be happy she’s stuck inside because she wanted to be locked up.

Back at Primatech, Sylar faces off against HRG but there’s no contest as he tosses HRG against the wall, taking his wallet, and locking the doors behind him, showing HRG his driver’s license which has his home address on it.

Simone goes to Isaac and asks if he has seen Peter, and he explains that he’s been looking for him but only seems to be painting locations and things with no sign of Peter in them.

Claire meanwhile has convinced her mother that she and Zach are going to go see some manatees at an aquarium outside of town, but really they travel to meet her birth mother, Meredith. Meredith is happy to see her and the two begin chatting until Claire decides to show her her secret. Meredith then reveals that she too has power, creating flames in the palm of her hand.

Hiro’s father, Kaito Nakamura, chastises Hiro for leaving his job and embarrassing their family, telling him that he needs to return home. Hiro refuses, stating a different destiny, explaining his plan to see Linderman with the painting, leaving Mr. Nakumura to tear up the painting. Hiro’s sister, Kimiko, begs Hiro to come back, but Hiro realizes that his sister is really the true heir to his father’s business, and creates a ploy to have her reveal her business savvy to her father. Hiro tells him that she should be the one to take over the business, not him.

Back in Texas, Sylar, dressed in a Primatech Paper Company delivery man outfit, goes to the Bennett’s household, surprising Mrs. Bennett. She talks with him, but as the conversation continues, Sylar gets creepier and creepy as she starts to suspect something is off. He tosses her phone away with his telekinetic powers and then throws her against a cabinet. Luckily, HRG and The Haitian bust in and give chase, but Sylar manages to get away. HRG tells his wife that The Haitian is his friend and will help her forget again. Isaac calls HRG and tells him that he thinks he found a way to stop Peter, explaining that he’s been painting Peter but can’t see him, like he’s a ghost. HRG comments that their “old friend” isn’t as dead as they thought. Later, Claire returns home and is surprised when her mother admonishes her for skipping school, seemingly forgetting their conversation from earlier.

Back in Kermit, Texas, Meredith makes a phone call, telling someone on the other line that their daughter just found her and that she’s alive, as the camera reveals Nathan on the other end of the call.

Back-issues:

Jeannot Szwarc goes back to the 60’s in TV directing, starting with Ironside in 1968 through to Grey’s Anatomy in 2019. He also directed many TV movies and features, including Jaws 2 and Supergirl (1984).

Jessalyn Gilsig played Meredith. She’s best known for her role of the selfish and controlling wife of Will Shuester, Terri Schuester on Glee. Most recently she was in the John Stamos lead series Big Shot (a temperamental college basketball coach who gets fired from his job and must take a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school). She was also a lead in the first three seasons of Vikings, a lead in the first two seasons of Boston Public (the lives of 10 faculty members at a high school in Boston weave in and out of dealing with trouble-makers, having a personal life, and keeping sanity), and a recurring character in Nip/Tuck.

George Takei played Hiro’s father, Kaito Nakamura, but is of course best known for his role of Hikaru Sulu on the original Star Trek series. He appeared in many TV shows, video games, and movies since then, even playing himself on various cartoons such as Family Guy, Scooby-Doo, and The Big Bang Theory. He has become a strong activist for LGBTQ rights, and a vocal advocate of immigrant rights. His own history of being an immigrant was turned into a Broadway show called Allegiance.

Chapter Fifteen 'Run!':

Volume: One

Written by: Adam Armus & Kay Foster

Directed by: Roxann Dawson

Original airdate: February 12, 2007

Synopsis:

Meredith talks with Nathan and explains how she survived the fire, a ruse she used to try and escape from someone who was out to get her. She uses Claire as a bargaining chip to get Nathan to offer her money so she won’t bring up his out of wedlock child. Despite his mother’s insistence that he not go and just send the money, Nathan feels he owes it to her because he did have feelings for her in the past.

Meanwhile, Claire is concerned over her mother’s memory loss, especially when HRG mentions that she’s been to see a neurologist for tests. Later HRG confronts Claire about her skipping school and the fake ticket to the aquarium and grounds her. Claire calls her birth mother who tells her she found her birth father but that she will let her know if he is interested in meeting her. Claire sneaks out and goes to see Meredith who tells her that her father really isn’t a great guy but will give them money, and offers her a small fraction of what Nathan is giving her, lying about the amount. Claire hides out and waits until Nathan shows up and listens to their conversation, hearing that Nathan doesn’t even want to see the picture of Claire. When Nathan leaves, she throws a rock at his car window in anger and runs off, leaving him to think it was just the neighborhood kids playing around.

Jessica meanwhile, is covering up her tattoo so DL won’t notice while Niki watches helplessly in the reflection. Micah asks her and DL if they are ever going to talk about what they all can do, but they rush him off to school, while Jessica opens a package she received from Mr. Linderman, detailing someone she is supposed to kill for stealing money from him.

Elsewhere, Parkman has picked up a job doing private security, in this case for Aron Malsky who apparently decided to steal the money DL was returning to Linderman, and is worried about the repercussions.

Hiro and Ando talk about how to get in to see Linderman when they come upon a crying showgirl who Ando takes a liking to and offers to help her get a bag back from her ex boyfriend in a hotel room upstairs. They disguise themselves as hotel bellboys and deliver room service to his room. As the man in question takes a shower, Hiro and Ando sneak around looking for the bag but Hiro feels that they shouldn’t be doing it and leaves, while Ando stays and finds the bag but has to hide under the bed as the man is coming out of the shower.

Mohinder continues trying to contact the people on his list, but all of them are not interested and merely hang up on him, until he reaches a man named Zane who calls him back and asks him to come quickly. Unfortunately, Sylar gets to Zane first, pretending to be Dr. Suresh and learns of the man's ability before killing him and taking it for himself. When Mohinder arrives, Sylar pretends to be Zane, and fascinates Mohinder by showing him his ability. Mohinder is renewed and excited to find more people like Zane, with Sylar/Zane offering to go with him to help.

Malsky has Parkman stop at a diamond dealer where he is offering the 2 million in exchange for valuable diamonds, but Parkman overhears the dealer thinking that Linderman set up this deal to catch Malsky. Parkman rushes Malsky out of the shop and they begin trying to get away when he hears Jessica’s thoughts about how she is going to kill the bodyguard and then Malsky. He then overhears Jessica talking to Niki and sends Malsky to the other side of the building as he calls the police for backup. He manages to catch Jessica and handcuffs her to the railing and asks where Niki is, with a surprised Jessica saying that she’s probably killing Malsky. Matt rushes off to find Malsky but Jessica has easily gotten out of the cuffs and throws Parkman out the window and then shoots Malsky dead.

Hiro overhears the showgirl talking to her actual boyfriend on the phone and planning to meet him later with the suitcase, and Hiro tells her she is a bad person, resulting in her punching him and knocking him out. Later he awakens to find himself trapped in a storage room, unable to get out, despite repeated attempts at knocking the door down. Eventually someone opens the door and it turns out to be the man from the shower who is actually not the showgirl’s boyfriend, but the state gaming commissioner.

Parkman, having landed on a narrow ledge, climbs back into the building just as police arrive. Parkman remembers Malsky’s dying thoughts and manages to find the diamonds he had hidden but as he goes to turn them in to the lead detective, he hears the man’s thoughts about how Parkman messed up this job and will likely never wear a badge again, leaving Parkman to pocket the diamonds himself.

Claire returns back home to see her mother scared and staring at Mr. Muggles who is barking at her. She tells Claire that this mangy thing came out of nowhere and probably has rabies. Claire tells her that he doesn’t and that she actually loves him but Mrs Bennett doesn’t know Mr. Muggles and that she doesn’t know her either as she backs away from them both.

Meanwhile, Jessica has returned home to Niki’s family to find another package waiting for her, opening it to find a picture of Nathan.

Back-issues:

Roxann Dawson is a working TV director. She’s most well known as an actor, and for her role of Lt. B'Elanna Torres, which originated in Star Trek Voyager and reprised in an episode of Enterprise. She was also in the direct-to-video sequel Darkman III: Die Darkman Die as Angela. She appeared in plenty of TV shows before and after Star Trek, but mostly just directs these days.

Bill Fagerbakke played the State Gaming Commission Representative, Gustuvson. He is best known for his role of Dawber on the sitcom Coach and the voice of Patrick the StarFish in SpongeBob SquarePants. He’s got 164 credits to his name, including video games based on the SpongeBob Squarepants, Young Justice, Lloyd in Space, DuckTales, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Kim Possible, Transformers, American Dad, and Family Guy. He’s made many cameos in TV series and movies, including Jennifer’s Body, Weeds, How I Met Your Mother, Funny Farm, Blackish, Oz, Halloween II (2009), and the CBS miniseries The Stand.

Missi Pyle played showgirl Hope. She is another “that guy” with almost 200 roles to her name. Some of her bigger roles are in Y: The Last Man, Dirty John (true crime story of love gone wrong), Galaxy Quest, Impulse (a young woman discovers she has the extraordinary power of teleportation), the aforementioned Another Period (a mockumentary-style period piece comedy that follows members of the wealthy Bellacourt family and their servants in early 20th-century Newport, Rhode Island), Cleaners (Roxie and Veronica are two gorgeous young women - who also happen to be highly trained contract killers. While on an errand for their boss, an unpleasant surprise in the trunk of their car turns this lethal pair into hunted targets), Jennifer Falls (Jennifer played by Jaime Presley, falls from her $250,000 LA job due to anger issues and her and her teenage daughter move in with her mom, with Ethan Suplee), and was even one of the parents in Tim Burton’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

RW552 - Tom Hanks 80's Rewatch - The Man with One Red Shoe

In this episode of The Tom Hanks 80's Rewatch, Cory and Eoghan are falsely identified as they discuss The Man with One Red Shoe.

Trailer:

Tom Hanks Timeline:

Hanks is a rising star, but often refrained from discussing the topic of fame during interviews. Apparently the topic bored him, and he also refused to answer questions regarding his family. After proving to be a romantic lead in Splash, then specifically choosing to do the raunchy R rated sex comedy Bachelor Party because "It was an opportunity to be an iconoclast down the line,” he came to The Man With One red Shoe to bolster his comedy chops. Hanks believed there was always a need for comedy, even when people were worried about impending doom. He referred to creating comedy “like sleep, you can't live without it. Certainly during the depression that was the case,” and often referred to the screwball comedies of that era as inspiration.

Our Favourite Trivia:

The film is a remake of the 1972 French film The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe starring Pierre Richard and Mireille Darc. The billing for the film omits the title, stating only, "Based on the motion picture written by Francis Veber and Yves Robert".

Tom Hanks described this film as "Not a very good movie. It doesn't have any real, clear focus to it. It isn't about anything in particular that you can honestly understand. It made no money at all."

Due to limited marketing, the film was not a big hit at the box office. Because of this, no soundtrack album was released at the time. However, in 2018, after 33 years of requests, a limited special edition soundtrack CD was released. It contained 18 tracks plus a 20-page booklet.

RW551 - Heroes Rewatch S01E12-13 - Godsend Fix

In this weeks episode of The Heroes Rewatch, Cory and Tom look to the heavens to solve their problems as they discuss season 1 episodes 12 & 13, Godsend and The Fix.

Chapter Twelve 'Godsend':

Volume: One

Written by: Tim Kring

Directed by: Paul Shapiro

Original airdate: January 22, 2007

Synopsis:

Peter lays in a hospital bed, experiencing the vision he had right before fainting and falling into his coma two weeks earlier. While his mother worries, Nathan talks with Simone and says Peter was talking about absorbing too many powers and Simone chastises him about not believing in Peter’s abilities. He decides he wants to see the artist that made the paintings that caused all the issues happening around him.

DL returns the money to an agent representing Linderman, but his debt isn’t totally cleared yet as the agent reminds him that he stole from Linderman, and will be in touch when he requires his services.

Niki meets with her lawyer, but Jessica coerces her way out to make the lawyer think she is crazy with multiple personality disorder. DL and Micah arrive at prison to visit Niki, who is brought to the visitor location under heavy guard, showing that they’ve encountered Jessica before, as the lead guard has a bandage on his face and clear signs of losing an altercation. As she talks with DL and Micah, she starts to panic and wants to hold Micah but the guards grab her and force her up against the wall, restraining her. Later, after a psych evaluation, she is confined in a straight jacket and sent to a padded cell.

Claire, at home with her father, feigns having no memory of what happened the night Jackie was killed. She goes to school and talks with Zach, asking if they could be friends, and he says it wouldn’t work. She goes to meet The Haitian who talks with her about how she can’t talk to Peter Petrelli because she’s not supposed to remember him, and that while she feels alone, she really isn’t. He talks of his abilities, of how his gift cannot give people their memories back, explaining to an incredulous Claire that their abilities are gifts from God and should be respected accordingly. She goes to Zach again, and  convinces him to come out with her to the abandoned oil rig, and just as he did originally, he videotapes Claire falling and hurting herself, and then healing.

At Primatech, HRG watches over Sylar, now heavily sedated and back in his cell, telling the doctor in charge that while Sylar deserves to die for what he did to Eden, his death hasn’t been authorized. Elsewhere in the building, Parkman and Hanson raid the place with a SWAT team, but find nothing, with Hanson’s superior berating them both and telling Hanson she will be benched for this. Hanson, angry with Parkman, cuts ties with him, as he goes to HRG and tells him that he will find out what he’s up to. He returns home to his wife, and confesses his ability to her.

At the museum of natural history in NYC, Hiro and Ando walk around, eventually finding the display of Takezo Kenzie, a wild savage folk hero from Japanese history that once wielded a sword that helped him focus his power, enabling him to become a leader. It was that same sword that Isaac painted in his painting of Hiro facing off against a T-Rex. Hiro decides that he has to get the sword in order to restore his powers and tries using his ability, but to no avail. He struggles again and seems to be able to slow time down, enabling him to get the sword and get out of the room, running into a statue of a T-Rex, before he escapes the museum safely. Unfortunately, when Ando joins him later and they pull the sword out, they realize it is a replica, donated to the museum by The Linderman Group.

Mohinder meets with an FBI agent who talks to him about the list of names Mohinder and his father had and the person he calls Sylar. The agent talks of how Sylar is not a name that shows anywhere, and tells him about a girl named Sarah Ellis who was just found dead of a gunshot wound, ruled as a suicide. Mohinder recognizes the picture of Sarah as being Eden.

At Isaac’s loft, he surprises Simone by being here and being totally clean, though she doesn’t seem to be as into him as she once was. Nathan talks with him as they discuss his painting of what looks like a man exploding, but then Hiro and Ando show up, telling Isaac about the fake sword and how it belongs to someone named Linderman. At the mention of the name, Nathan looks up and he and Hiro recognize each other, and have a back and forth about what they need to try to do together to stop the future he saw from happening.

Mohinder returns to his apartment to find HRG waiting for him, with a gun. Mohinder is quite standoffish due to HRG’s spying methods, but HRG tells him that his father’s list is of great importance to him. Mohinder tells him he plans to contact the people on the list to warn them about HRG, but HRG suggests that they could actually make a difference together, and gives him his card and access number if he changes his mind.

Peter, again experiences his vision, but this time seeing more of it, sees Nathan telling him he can help him as Peter explodes, causing him to awaken finally. He leaves their hospital and tries to get a flight to the desert, hoping to be away from New York when he does explode, but notices a man stealing from people’s purses and tables at a restaurant. He chases him down, calling out to him and confronting him. The man is shocked that Peter sees him, and the two push and  struggle against each other, accidentally knocking over street vendors’ items off their tables, while people stand around, staring and wondering why things are falling down when there’s no one even near them.

Back-issues:

Aron Malsky was played by Kevin Chamberlin. He’s done a lot of voice work in recent years, but also starred in The Nightmare Gallery (an anthropology professor's obsession with a paranormal mystery threatens her job, marriage, and sanity as she fights to find a missing student), The Grotto (when her fiance dies unexpectedly and she loses her job, 40-something music manager Alice Kendall inherits half ownership of The Grotto, a struggling nightclub in the California desert where she discovers eccentric performers and a heartbreaking secret), and the Disney series Jessie (a Texan teen moves to New York City to follow her dreams and ends up as a nanny for a high-profile couple's four children).

John Ross Bowie was the lawyer. He’s best known from the Big Bang Theory where he played Barry Kripke. He’s recently appeared in Reno 911: It’s A Wonderful Heist (tv movie), and was a main cast member in Minnie Driver Speechless (the family of a special-needs teen is good at dealing with the challenges he faces--and excellent at creating new ones).

Chapter Thirteen 'The Fix':

Volume: One

Written by: Natalie Chaidez

Directed by: Terrence O'Hara

Original airdate: January 29, 2007

Synopsis:

As Peter struggles with the man he saw stealing, the man tries walking away, with Peter following. The man tells Peter his name is Claude Rains and to leave him alone. Peter asks him to help him with his powers, that he is going to the cause of an explosion in the city, but Claude refuses and leaves.

Elsewhere, Matt and Janice bond over his mind reading ability, before he tells her about how he was kidnapped and how he is determined to find out what HRG and The Haitian are doing. She is slow to believe, but he heads off to work to appear before a review board for his actions. He hears the thoughts of the captains about his fantastic story, asking him if this is really how he wants the report to go through, with the captains hoping he does so they can get him off the force. Matt changes his story, saying he lied due to wanting to appear like a hero after failing his detective test so many times. As a result, they brand him a liar with a suspension from work for now. He returns home to find their pipes have burst a leak and he quickly begins fixing it, after which Janice gives him the news that she is pregnant, reaffirming to him that their marriage is intact despite his earlier misgivings.

Hiro and Ando return to their car but find themselves confronted by an intimidating man with a gun. They run but then are pursued by more men in a van. They try hiding but eventually are captured by them, and driven to meet “the boss” who turns out to be Hiro's father.

Niki meets with Dr. Witherson who wants to help her with her multiple personality disorder, but Niki refuses to do anything, adamant she just be given drugs to keep Jessica down and out.

Meanwhile, DL finds himself having a hard time trying to be a father, and uses his abilities to get in to see Niki and get her help. She tells him that he has to do better because she is safer locked up. While he’s there, Micah heads out on his own and uses his ability to get a lot of money from an ATM. When DL returns home, he tells Micah that they both need to try to make things work for now, as Niki can’t be there right now. Micah then reveals his secret ability to his father.

At Primatech, a sedated Sylar rests but with his vitals appearing highly irregular. HRG tells the doctor to just keep him alive, one way or the other.

Niki, having a change of heart, decides to work with Witherson, citing her son needing her as the reason. Witherson asks to talk with Jessica, a standard procedure, but Niki refuses, leaving Witherson to leave, saying that if she can’t talk with Jessica, Niki won’t be seeing her son for a long time.

Nathan goes to meet Mohinder and get answers about what is actually going on, but after hearing that Peter is different, that his ability makes him like a sponge, able to soak up other people’s abilities, he and Mohinder theorize that absorbing too much could make him dangerous to himself and others, especially if he were to absorb an unstable ability. Nathan goes to leave but Mohinder wants to go with him, thinking that if he can study Peter, he may be able to help all of those people who have abilities.

Claire and Zach search through their family’s computer, hoping to find something about people with abilities, but find nothing, when HRG returns home. He talks with Claire who feigns total disinterest in a “partner project” that she and Zach were assigned to. After he leaves, she tells Zach she needs to talk with someone who can help herewith answers, and hangs some wind chimes outside her window, a signal to the Haitian that she wants to talk. When they finally do, she asks him about her real birth parents and he tells her what he knows: that her mother died in an explosion in Texas 14 years earlier, believing what HRG told him once.

Nathan and Mohinder find Peter at his apartment and explain their plan to help him, but Peter is incredulous at the idea that he can cure him and fix it all, refusing to be his guinea pig before running out into the hall. Mohinder and Nathan rush out but they see nothing, asking the bodyguard where Peter went but he too sees nothing. As they see an open window and rush off thinking Peter went out that way, Claude appears, holding his hand over Peter’s mouth so they can both hide from them. They go back inside Peter’s apartment, and despite calling Peter an empath and a pain, decides that he can’t let Peter just kill everyone, and tells him to come along with him.

Claire later admits to her father that she feels like the time for bears and talks can’t last forever, seemingly wanting to get rid of the stuffed animals she always held so dear, and telling her father that it’s time she dealt with her own problems. She then starts to research her real mother and after many attempts, finally gets in touch with Meredith Gordon, a woman who says she was told her baby died in a fire 14 years earlier, before lighting her cigarette with a flame that appears from her fingers.

Back at Primatech, while conducting more tests, the doctor reports to HRG that Sylar just died. However, Sylar suddenly awakens and kills the doctor, putting him in Sylar’s place on the bed, covered with a sheet. HRG shows up to see Sylar, and is shocked to see the dead doctor, turning to see Sylar standing there, asking him, “How’s Claire?”

Back-issues:

We’ve seen director Terrence O'Hara before, but as an actor in the pilot episode of Voyagers! where he played the character Tom.

Claude is played by Christopher Eccelston, best known for his work as the Ninth Doctor in the 2005 reboot/restart of Doctor Who, where he did just one season. According to rumors, he bowed out due to problems with upper management. His first big success was in ten episodes of the 25 episode series Cracker (Dr. Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald is a criminal psychologist who helps the Manchester Police profile and interview criminals but his personal life is a mess: he's a chain-smoking, gambling-addicted alcoholic and his wife keeps threatening to leave him), and he followed up with Our Friends in the North (a drama examining the politics and change across Britain from the Sixties to the Nineties seen through the varying fortunes of four friends). He went on to have further success in the Marvel Universe, appearing in Thor The Dark World. He most recently played the part of Fagin in the series Dodger, a new take on the Oliver Twist story.

RW550 - Tom Hanks 80's Rewatch - Bachelor Party

In this episode of The Tom Hanks 80's Rewatch, Cory and Eoghan get the lads together as they discuss Bachelor Party.

Trailer:

Tom Hanks Timeline:

On the topic of marriage, Hanks met his first wife, actress and producer Samantha Lewes (real name: Susan Dillingham), while he was in college. They were married in 1978 and had two children, Colin and Elizabeth. Colin Hanks was born on November 24, 1977, before the couple tied the knot, and Elizabeth was born on May 17, 1982. Hanks has said that he married Samantha to battle an aching loneliness, and by the time he was 23 he knew they weren’t meant to stay together. Being a child of divorce himself, it was hard for him to accept his failed marriage, not wanting to impose his own experiences onto his children. Nevertheless, Tom and Samantha divorced in 1987. In 2002, Samantha was diagnosed with bone cancer, and although Hanks contributed financially to get her the best treatment, it was already too far gone, and she passed away that same year.

Our Favourite Trivia:

Kelly McGillis and Paul Reiser were considered for the lead roles early in production, but were replaced due to lack of chemistry between them.

According to the DVD, this film was inspired by the actual bachelor party thrown for producer Bob Israel.

RW549 - Heroes Rewatch S01E11 - Fallout

In this weeks episode of The Heroes Rewatch, Cory and Tom take a breather as they discuss season 1 episodes 11, Fallout.

Chapter Eleven 'Fallout':

Volume: One

Written by: Joe Pokaski

Directed by: John Badham

Original airdate: December 4, 2006

Synopsis:

As Claire and her father arrive home, she asks him if he is mad at her for her revelation of her abilities to him. He explains he already knew about them and has been doing what he could to keep her safe for a long time. She is upset to learn about this, telling him that she has always felt so alone. He tells her that no one can know about her abilities anymore and to make sure to destroy any tapes she and Zach made.

Parkman and Hanson investigate the high school, discovering extra sets of footprints and decide to question Peter Petrelli, now in custody. Matt tries to use his powers on Peter, but with Peter’s own ability,  only a feedback loop happens. Peter is shocked to find out that they aren’t protecting Claire at the moment, which pushes them to go and find her.

DL, entering the car with Micah, is suddenly shot at and injured. Jessica from afar takes another shot but DL dematerializes and the bullet passes through him harmlessly. The two escape, with Jessica chasing after them. They try to lose her in the woods and eventually find a cabin that DL uses his powers to get into to try and find something to mend his wound but he soon passes out from the blood loss.

At Primatech, HRG goes to visit Sylar in his new cell, under the watchful eye of Eden. HRG calls Sylar by his birth name Gabriel which angers him when he tries to use his powers, finds out they aren’t working. HRG smiles as he leaves the room, turning out the lights on Sylar. Outside the room, Eden is aghast that they are keeping Sylar alive, but HRG says that those are the orders he was given before he walks away. Eden goes to Isaac and tells him she is leaving, giving him a phone and a security pass so he can get out himself and use his abilities to change the world.

Hiro and Ando discuss what their next steps should be when suddenly Isaac calls them and arranges for them to meet. They go to a hotel where he tries to use his abilities without drugs, and after Hiro tells him to concentrate, showing how he uses his ability, Isaac goes into a trance and begins to paint a picture of a sword wielding Hiro facing off against a dinosaur.

Hanson questions Claire with HRG in the room to hear her side of the story while Parkman watches from a concealed room, trying to read her mind. Unfortunately, with the Haitian nearby, he is unable to do so. Claire asks to talk with Peter and the two of them have a moment together, realizing they both have abilities and aren’t all alone in the world. Later, Parkman and Hanson stake out Primatech and see HRG and the Haitian walking together and Parkman recognizes him from his bar encounter.

Jessica meanwhile, trying to catch up to DL and Micah, stops for a moment and she and Niki argue about what they should be doing but Jessica takes control and rushes off when she hears Micah calling for her. He tells her that DL is hurt inside the cabin, but when she goes to enter, gun drawn, DL ambushes her and they start to fight. Micah tries to stop them but Jessica tosses him aside onto some rocks where he hurts his arm. The incident causes Niki to take over, realizing what has happened. As the trio reconnect, she tells them that she is too dangerous to be around and runs off to ask a cop to arrest her for murder.

Claire gets the tapes back from Zach and destroys them and the two reaffirm their brief but important friendship. She returns home to talk to her brother, telling him that their dad knows that Lyle knows about what she can do, but Lyle is unsure what she means. He is also unsure of how he got home from school since their father was supposed to pick him up but he can’t remember that happening. Claire goes to find Zach and tells him about Lyle not remembering, but Zach is also clueless as to what she means, stating that she hasn’t talked to him since they were in the 6th grade, and she rushes off.

Claire calls her father in a panic and he reassures her he will be home soon and not to worry. Suddenly the Haitian enters Claire’s room and grabs her, speaking out loud and telling her that he is the reason her friend, her brother and even her mother have been made to forget things. He tells her that her father will expect Claire to not remember anything when he gets home, but the man says that it is important she NOT forget anything, and asks her if she can keep a secret.

Eden calls Mohinder, who has returned to New York and is at a dead end trying to get anyone to try and protect the people on his father’s list. She tells him she is sorry she lied to him and will explain everything soon but that she has to take care of the man who killed his father first. Eden goes to Sylar, showing him her gun and commands him to use it to kill himself. Unfortunately, Sylar uses his telekinesis to pull Eden through the glass window and grabs her. She goes to aim the gun upwards, with Sylar telling her that it won’t hurt him at all, before she turns the gun and kills herself before he can take her ability away.

Nathan goes to bail out Peter and as they walk outside, Peter starts to faint. He finds himself in a dreamlike state where Niki, DL, Micah, Hiro, Ando, Nathan, Simone, Isaac, and even Claire are all seemingly frightened of something to do with Peter. He looks down and sees his hands glowing and he starts to explode. He awakens with a gasp in Nathan’s arms, right where he fainted and exclaims that he’s the one who causes the explosion, before going non-responsive as a crowd gathers around them.
