Chapter Eleven 'Fallout':

Volume: One

Written by: Joe Pokaski

Directed by: John Badham

Original airdate: December 4, 2006

Synopsis:

As Claire and her father arrive home, she asks him if he is mad at her for her revelation of her abilities to him. He explains he already knew about them and has been doing what he could to keep her safe for a long time. She is upset to learn about this, telling him that she has always felt so alone. He tells her that no one can know about her abilities anymore and to make sure to destroy any tapes she and Zach made.

Parkman and Hanson investigate the high school, discovering extra sets of footprints and decide to question Peter Petrelli, now in custody. Matt tries to use his powers on Peter, but with Peter’s own ability,  only a feedback loop happens. Peter is shocked to find out that they aren’t protecting Claire at the moment, which pushes them to go and find her.

DL, entering the car with Micah, is suddenly shot at and injured. Jessica from afar takes another shot but DL dematerializes and the bullet passes through him harmlessly. The two escape, with Jessica chasing after them. They try to lose her in the woods and eventually find a cabin that DL uses his powers to get into to try and find something to mend his wound but he soon passes out from the blood loss.

At Primatech, HRG goes to visit Sylar in his new cell, under the watchful eye of Eden. HRG calls Sylar by his birth name Gabriel which angers him when he tries to use his powers, finds out they aren’t working. HRG smiles as he leaves the room, turning out the lights on Sylar. Outside the room, Eden is aghast that they are keeping Sylar alive, but HRG says that those are the orders he was given before he walks away. Eden goes to Isaac and tells him she is leaving, giving him a phone and a security pass so he can get out himself and use his abilities to change the world.

Hiro and Ando discuss what their next steps should be when suddenly Isaac calls them and arranges for them to meet. They go to a hotel where he tries to use his abilities without drugs, and after Hiro tells him to concentrate, showing how he uses his ability, Isaac goes into a trance and begins to paint a picture of a sword wielding Hiro facing off against a dinosaur.

Hanson questions Claire with HRG in the room to hear her side of the story while Parkman watches from a concealed room, trying to read her mind. Unfortunately, with the Haitian nearby, he is unable to do so. Claire asks to talk with Peter and the two of them have a moment together, realizing they both have abilities and aren’t all alone in the world. Later, Parkman and Hanson stake out Primatech and see HRG and the Haitian walking together and Parkman recognizes him from his bar encounter.

Jessica meanwhile, trying to catch up to DL and Micah, stops for a moment and she and Niki argue about what they should be doing but Jessica takes control and rushes off when she hears Micah calling for her. He tells her that DL is hurt inside the cabin, but when she goes to enter, gun drawn, DL ambushes her and they start to fight. Micah tries to stop them but Jessica tosses him aside onto some rocks where he hurts his arm. The incident causes Niki to take over, realizing what has happened. As the trio reconnect, she tells them that she is too dangerous to be around and runs off to ask a cop to arrest her for murder.

Claire gets the tapes back from Zach and destroys them and the two reaffirm their brief but important friendship. She returns home to talk to her brother, telling him that their dad knows that Lyle knows about what she can do, but Lyle is unsure what she means. He is also unsure of how he got home from school since their father was supposed to pick him up but he can’t remember that happening. Claire goes to find Zach and tells him about Lyle not remembering, but Zach is also clueless as to what she means, stating that she hasn’t talked to him since they were in the 6th grade, and she rushes off.

Claire calls her father in a panic and he reassures her he will be home soon and not to worry. Suddenly the Haitian enters Claire’s room and grabs her, speaking out loud and telling her that he is the reason her friend, her brother and even her mother have been made to forget things. He tells her that her father will expect Claire to not remember anything when he gets home, but the man says that it is important she NOT forget anything, and asks her if she can keep a secret.

Eden calls Mohinder, who has returned to New York and is at a dead end trying to get anyone to try and protect the people on his father’s list. She tells him she is sorry she lied to him and will explain everything soon but that she has to take care of the man who killed his father first. Eden goes to Sylar, showing him her gun and commands him to use it to kill himself. Unfortunately, Sylar uses his telekinesis to pull Eden through the glass window and grabs her. She goes to aim the gun upwards, with Sylar telling her that it won’t hurt him at all, before she turns the gun and kills herself before he can take her ability away.

Nathan goes to bail out Peter and as they walk outside, Peter starts to faint. He finds himself in a dreamlike state where Niki, DL, Micah, Hiro, Ando, Nathan, Simone, Isaac, and even Claire are all seemingly frightened of something to do with Peter. He looks down and sees his hands glowing and he starts to explode. He awakens with a gasp in Nathan’s arms, right where he fainted and exclaims that he’s the one who causes the explosion, before going non-responsive as a crowd gathers around them.
