A picture, widely distributed on the Internet, features the name of this movie sandwiched between Erin Brockovich (2000) and My Dog Skip (2000) on a marquee, thus spelling out the phrase "Erin Brockovich Screwed My Dog Skip".

Directorial debut of screenwriting partnership, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The two were responsible for the screenplays to Ed Wood (1994), The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), Man on the Moon (1999) and Auto Focus (2002). As of 2019, it is the only film they directed.

When Ms. Crock flips through the channels on Grover's TV, the Edward D. Wood Jr. movie Glen or Glenda (1953) can be briefly seen. Writers/directors Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski wrote the movie Ed Wood (1994).

The main characters' names are based on U.S. presidents: Willard (not Millard) Fillmore; Rusty P. (not Rutherford B.) Hayes; and Grover Cleaver (not Cleveland). Also, Detective Tom Dewey is based on presidential candidate Thomas E. Dewey.
