RW540 - Heroes Rewatch - Power Up (introduction)

In this weeks episode of The Rewatch Podcast, Cory and Tom introduce you to the new rewatch plans and discuss the main cast of Heroes.

Back-Issues:

Sendhil Ramamurthy plays Mohinder Suresh. Heroes was his big break, having had a number of smaller one off roles before that show. Since then he’s had recurring roles in Covert Affairs (Annie Walker must adapt to the challenging life of a CIA operative under the guidance of her handler, Auggie. But soon she realizes her recruit might have to do with her last boyfriend rather than her talent) and The Beauty and the Beast reboot series (A beautiful detective falls in love with an ex-soldier who goes into hiding from the secret government organization that turned him into a mechanically charged beast, stars Kristen Kruek). He also starred as a lead in the series Reverie (A former hostage negotiator takes a job retrieving people who are lost in a virtual reality program) alongside Sarah Shahi (from Dawson’s Creek). He had a recurring role in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever (The complicated life of a first-generation Indian-American teenage girl, inspired by Mindy Kaling's own childhood). He was in the animated series Cleopatra In Space (a comedic adventure focusing on the untold story of Cleopatra's teenage years. Viewers can follow Cleo as she is transported 30,000 years into the future, to an Egyptian-themed planet that is ruled by talking cats and where she discovers she is the prophesied savior of the future world. In order to prepare for her role and mission, Cleo is sent to an elite academy where she has to train to take on the bad guys, figure out how to eventually get herself back home to Egypt, as well as tackling the highs and lows of being a teenager in high school), played Ra’s Al Gaul in DC SuperHero Girls, had a small role in Doom Patrol, and was a recurring villain on The Flash series.

Milo Ventimiglia plays Peter Petrelli and before Heroes he was doing quite a bit of acting, appearing as a recurring character in Gilmore Girls and American Dreams. He started out as an extra in Saved By the Bell and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He appeared in Rocky Balboa, right before Heroes came out, and then reprised the role in Creed II. He’s done some voice work, playing Dr. Strange and Wolverine, and even Spider-Man Noir in the Ultimate Spider-man series, a voice played by Nicholas Cage in Into the Spiderverse. His biggest series since Heroes however is This Is Us (A extra-heartwarming and super beyond-emotional story about a unique set of triplets, their incredibly amazing and heart wrenching struggles, and their wonderful parents). He currently stars in The Company You Keep (Tells the story of con-man Charlie and undercover C.I.A. officer Emma. A night of passion ignites love between the pair, who are on a collision course professionally).

Adrian Pasdar, playing Nathan Petrelli, is likely best known for playing Iron Man! Well, the animated version anyway, in several series such as Iron Man, Marvel Anime, Iron man 3 The Official Video Game, Lego Marvel Superheroes and it’s sequel Maximum Overload, Iron man and Captain America: Heroes United, Hulk and the Agents of SMASH, Disney Infinity, Ultimate Spider-Man, Phineas and Ferb, and Avengers Assemble. He has done some other superhero voices for other titles as well, providing voices for Captain America, Hawkeye, and Hugo Strange and even played Morgan Edge in the CW’s Supergirl. He actually was in Top Gun as Chipper and Solar Bases as Darstar at the start of his career. His first leading role was as Jim Profit in Profit (Jim Profit works for a multinational company and isn't above using any means necessary to get ahead, which includes bribery, blackmail, intimidation, extortion, and even murder). It only ran for 8 episodes but reviews rate it very high. Another brief 44 episode series he headlined was Mysterious Ways (Declan Dunn is an anthropology professor who believes in miracles and other wonders. When he hears of a miraculous thing he goes out to find out if it's an actual miracle. Peggy Fowler is his friend, a psychiatrist who tries to make sure he's grounded). He was also a regular on Judging Amy as an assistant district attorney, which brings him finally to Heroes. After Heroes his biggest role is as a lead in The Lying Game (Identical twins meet as teenagers after Sutton was adopted by a rich couple and Emma grew up a foster kid. Sutton investigates their bio mom etc., while Emma takes her place/identity). His latest project is East New York where he has guest starred 4 times so far (Procedural following Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood and her diverse team in East New York's 74th Precinct).

Greg Grunberg plays Matt Parkman. He is a childhood friend of JJ Abrams and often appears in his productions, most notably Lost as the airline pilot. His breakout role was actually in Felicity where he was in 70 of the 87 episodes. He followed that up with Alias where he guest starred in 68 of the 105 episodes. Since Heroes, he’s played in various series as one off characters, with recurring roles in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s The Client List (Riley is a single mother living in a small Texas town and leading a shocking double life), Masters of Sex, and the Star Wars sequels playing Snap Wesley. We have mentioned him before as starring in a series called Weird Weird Times but still no information is available about that 2020 series.

Jack Coleman plays Mr. Bennett (also known as HRG). This is his claim to fame, although he’s had appearances in a large number of tv shows, such as The Office and Castle where he played a senator, in both series. He was a lead in Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital as well (The quirky staff and patients of an ultramodern (albeit increasingly dilapidated) Maine hospital gradually become familiar with the supernatural occurrences that take place there, uncovering a dark secret in the process). He most recently had a guest spot (2 episodes) on the ABC series Good Trouble (2 sisters move to LA to try and start their lives as young adults).

Hayden Panettiere plays Claire Bennett. While Heroes was her first big breakout hit, she has since led the show Nashville where she did 124 episodes (lives of rising and fading movie stars in Nashville). As a much younger actress, she had recurring roles on One life To Live and Guiding Light, as well as a recurring role in Ally McBeal for 12 episodes. She also played Kirby Reed in Scream 4 and Scream VI, which is her latest project.

Masi Oka plays Hiro Nakamura. Near the start of his career he played a Japanese pedestrian in Austin Powers Goldmember, which quickly got him a main role as Deng Wu in the series Luis (which has no synopsis but is named after the lead actor, Luis Guzman). He had one-off roles here and there in many shows until finally Heroes hit. After Heroes, his biggest role was as Max in the Hawaii 5-0 reboot. His latest role was as a conductor in the movie Bullet Train and a voice in an episode of the Star Wars Visions series playing … Ethan.

Zachary Quinto plays Sylar. Before Heroes aside from a bunch of one off roles, he was in season 3 of 24, starring in 24 episodes as Adam Kaufman. After that he was in a comedy called So Notorious as a lead with Tori Spelling (a parody of her life). After Heroes he landed the role of Spock in the JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek film series, and the video games associated with those movies. He did play Lex Luthor in the movie Superman: Man of Tomorrow, and was the lead in 20 episodes of a show called NOS4A2 (Charlie Manx, a seductive immortal who feeds off the souls of children, has his whole world threatened when a young woman in New England discovers she has a dangerous gift). He was in 11 episodes of Netflix’s Big Mouth (John Mulaney and Nick Kroll’s production), 27 episodes of American Horror Story, and currently plays the voice of Robot in the Amazon series, Invincible.

Noah Gray-Cabey played Micah. Starting out he was in 60 of the 124 episodes of My Wife and Kids, led by Damon Wayons (Michael Kyle longs for a traditional life, but his day-trader wife Janet, gangsta rap-worshipping son Michael Jr., and brooding daughters Claire and Kady make his dream just that ... a dream). After Heroes he was in the series Code Black (The staff of the L.A. County Hospital emergency room treats patients under difficult circumstances, with Rob Lowe, Luis Guzman). He also did 9 episodes of Pretty Little Liars, and his latest project was in 14 episodes of the series All American (When a star high school football player from South Central is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High School, two separate worlds collide). He was also in Pizza Man, the Frankie Munoz show that we have talked a lot about in the past (A pizza delivery boy receives superhuman strength upon ingesting a genetically altered tomato. He must battle a corporation that is trying to steal his powers in order to save both the world and the girl of his dreams).

Ali Larter played Nikki Sanders, as well as some other people in Heroes. Before that, she was a guest star in many series, such as Dawson’s Creek. She is known for several movie roles, such as Varsity Blues, House on Haunted Hill, Legally Blonde, 3 of the Resident Evil film series, and Final Destination 1 and 2.  After Heroes she was in the movie Obsessed with Idris Elba (A successful asset manager, who has just received a huge promotion, is blissfully happy in his career and in his marriage. But when a temp worker starts stalking him, all the things he's worked so hard for are placed in jeopardy).  Her last lead role was in The Last Victim (Neo Western thriller set in the American southwest, following Sheriff Hickey trying to solve the worst case he has seen in his small town, likely caused by a violent local gang led by a fearsome criminal) while her most recent role was lower down on the cast list in The Hater (A liberal speechwriter on a U.S. Senate campaign, loses her job for a protest gone wrong and returns to her conservative Texas hometown where her childhood bully is running for state. Dorothy discovers that good vs. evil isn't simple).

Santiago Cabrera played Isaac Mendez. His first big role was the lead in Empire (Epic four-hour series about the rise of Octavius who succeeded Julius Caesar and tangled with Marc Anthony for control of the Roman empire and finally went on to become the emperor Augustus). After Heroes he had a recurring role in 6 episodes of Merlin where he played Lancelot and then 30 episodes of The Musketeers playing Aramis. He was a lead in the series Salvation (An MIT grad student and a tech superstar bring a low-level Pentagon official a staggering discovery--that an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth), and most recently played Christobal Rios on Picard.
