Original airdate: April 20, 2009
Synopsis:
Sylar wakes up in Agent Taub’s apartment, an agent whose life Sylar took over on Danko’s suggestion in order to work with him freely. However, Sylar finds himself going to bed as himself and waking up as Taub, his shapeshifting out of his control, even going so far as to find extra teeth in his mouth.
Matt, having come up with a plan, decides to head home to Janice with Baby Matt, but Hiro and Ando try to convince him that he needs to help stop Danko. Matt tells them that he wants to be a part of his baby’s life and they understand, letting him go, deciding themselves to go to building 26. Matt refuses to give them the address, telling them of the consequences of going there. The two Matt’s leave, as Hiro comes up with a new plan to find Building 26.
Danko finds Sylar and warns him that he has to stop being Sylar, due to his agents spotting Sylar on security cams throughout the city. Sylar tells him how he is losing himself due to the shapeshifting, refusing to stay as Taub because he is a nothing. Danko explains that if he keeps becoming Sylar, he will be forced to hunt him down, leaving Sylar no choice to shapeshift back into Taub. As Danko leaves satisfied, Sylar scratches I AM SYLAR into his arm before it quickly disappears, healing.
A man named Tom who has the power to disintegrate objects receives a text from Rebel telling him to get out and is further surprised when Sylar appears in his home. Sylar explains how he is like Tom, having an ability, and plays on the man’s fear, having him show him his ability. Finding it interesting, he decides to kill Tom and take his power, using Tom’s blood to write I AM SYLAR on the walls. As Agents bust in, Sylar shifts to Taub and joins the team.
Danko and Sylar talk and he reiterates that Sylar needs to stay dead but Sylar continues to suffer from his identity crisis. Danko tells him to find something that he can anchor himself to, to remind him who he is, showing him a watch his father gave him years ago that helps him. Sylar can easily tell the watch is running fast, telling Danko that THAT is actually his true ability.
Hiro and Ando decide to break into Mr. Isaac’s apartment and use Ando as bait in order to find Building 26 but Ando is not in agreement, especially given Hiro continues to not take himself seriously as a partner. The agents quickly burst in and fire at them but Hiro stops time. Since he was touching Ando as well, he is also able to move around in the frozen time. The two argue more about the plan, but in the end, Hiro allows Ando to be shot with the tranquilizers while Hiro takes the uniform of one of the agents to go undercover as they drive Ando back to their base. On the way, Hiro stops time in order to turn off the gas that is keeping Ando asleep, telling him to just pretend to be asleep while they return to Building 26. However when he starts time again, another agent notices Hiro’s glasses and goes to tase him but Ando uses his power to subdue all the agents. Taking a phone from the pocket of one of the agents, they use the GPS to find Building 26.
Sylar meanwhile has used his abilities to get all materials and evidence relating to the unsolved death of his mother and begins shapeshifting into her and back to himself again and again in order to try and resolve his identity crisis, trying to work it out with “her” about how he murdered her and how he feels unloved and alone.
Danko shows up and tells him they found Rebel based on information Sylar retrieved from Tom earlier, and they head out to find him. Sylar goes rogue and confronts Micah who tells Sylar that he can help him, that he isn’t alone, that all people with abilities are connected. Sylar decides to help him, running away as Micah and drawing the agents away while the real Micah escapes. Sylar/Micah allows himself to be shot and falls into the water and disappears. Sylar then shape-shifts back to himself, explaining that he didn’t take the kid’s power because he has too many powers to deal with as is. Danko says they couldn’t find a body but Sylar says dead is dead.
Micah later witnesses Sylar’s identity crisis continuing, as he tells him that Sylar could make a difference with his abilities, by turning into Nathan Petrelli and talking to the president but Sylar tells him to leave before he kills him. He then takes on Micah’s idea and goes to Nathan’s office, learning all about Nathan’s memories by touching his things in his office, an ability he got while he was incarcerated on Level 5 with Angela. While there, he begins having another identity crisis moment as he talks with his mother again, and gets the idea to be anything he wants, including the president, shapeshifting into Nathan.
Matt reunites with Janice and tells her he wants to be in his baby’s life, but he then hears that agents are nearby. He has her pack so that they can get away, but Matt realizes that he can’t go, that he needs to go back and help Hiro and Ando and the others fight back. As agents storm the building, Matt uses his powers to hide them from the perception, keeping them safe.
Elsewhere, Mohinder continues looking at the reel to reel tape he received, searching for answers as to his fathers work at Coyote Sands, but all he finds are a group of agents storming the building, and again, surprise surprise, they capture him.
Having found Building 26, Hiro and Ando are ready to go in but Hiro finally starts to trust Ando as a full partner, telling him so. Their partnership renewed, Hiro begins to freeze time, but suddenly suffers a great headache and a nosebleed.
Nathan returns to his office and is confronted by Sylar, disguised as him. They verbally spar before Sylar decides to cut open his head. Danko shows up and tases the real Nathan, explaining that since he is a senator, they have to be careful about how they do things with him. As Sylar turns away to shapeshifts into Taub, on Danko’s insistence since they are going to go and capture more specials, Danko stabs him in the back of his neck and he falls to the floor. Surprisingly, Sylar rises up and pulls the blade out of his neck, telling Danko that it hurts.

Synopsis:
Angela awakens as she, Bennet and Claire drive past a construction site. She tells them Nathan is in trouble and Bennet, recognizing that agents are going to be waiting for them, stops the car and sends Angela and Claire off on their own to find Nathan. Benent continues driving and is eventually taken into custody by the agents.
Sylar tells Danko that shapeshifting changes everything about him, and so he managed to move his off switch from the back of his head. When Danko tells him that he won’t let Sylar get close to the president, Sylar shape shifts to Danko, kills some agents, and then shape shifts to Taub, joining the other agents in arresting Danko as a killer. He soon finds himself in a cell with Bennet as the two talk about how they need to deal with this, forming a temporary partnership to escape.
Angela sends Claire to find Nathan while she goes to resolve another dream, finding Matt Parkman. Claire finds Nathan, not realizing it’s Sylar, due to Sylar using his object history ability to convince her that he is the real one. Together they go to meet the president. Once inside and being introduced to Nathan’s old friend Liam, who is the President’s Chief of Staff. Nathan/Sylar goes to sign in and Claire notices that he signs with his left hand instead of right, but he plays it off.
Ando tells Hiro they don’t need to go into the building but Hiro shakes off his problem, knowing he has to stop time, despite Ando’s warnings that it could kill him. With time stopped they begin searching the building, opening doors and checking, leaving open the door to Bennet and Danko’s cell, before finally finding the right one. They begin replacing the captured and sedated specials with the agents as Ando notices Hiro’s ear bleeding. As time restarts, Hiro stumbles and they ask Mohinder to help figure out what is wrong with him. Mohinder tells him he is still human and his body seems to be rejecting his ability and shouldn’t use his ability anymore.
Danko and Bennet find the prisoners gone and the agents sedated. Danko gets out heavy duty tranquilizers to capture Sylar but instead goes to inject Bennett with it. Hiro stops time and saves him, but starts to suffer from a nosebleed before collapsing. Bennet calls Claire, and she answers but soon reveals that it is Sylar shapeshifts into Claire before hanging up. Sylar then begins going full creeper on Claire, stroking her hair and plying her with wine, telling her that she could be his first First Lady or they could just continue to fight throughout time since neither of them can die.
Peter arrives to find Nathan and the two head off to try and stop Sylar. As they arrive, Liam shows up as they realize that Nathan was already signed in. Nathan reveals his powers to Liam, telling him that they are there to stop a dangerous man, giving him a powerful speech, and Liam lets them through. They arrive at Sylar/Nathan’s suite and see Claire come crashing through the door. The two fly into the suite and begin an epic battle, using their powers against Sylar, in a glorious moment that happens entirely behind closed doors.
As the smoke clears, Claire finds Peter beaten but still able to stand. Peter tells her that Sylar and Nathan flew out of the window, and they leave to go find them. A second later, Sylar and Nathan fly BACK into the room, and Sylar slices Nathan’s neck, killing him as he bleeds out. Bennet finds Peter and Claire as Peter reveals that he managed to touch Sylar and copy his power.
Angela finds Matt but he is adamant he needs to go stop Danko, but Angela is insistent that he come with her to save Nathan. Eventually he acquiesces and goes with her. Using Matt’s powers they get into the suite and find him dead as Angela screams in mourning.
Sylar/Nathan heads to the press conference where the president is being ushered away with his security. Sylar/Nathan takes Liam and subdues him, taking over as him and joining the president in his security detail and ultimately his escape car. Sylar/Nathan goes to shake hands with the president, but finds himself suddenly shifting through different faces, as the president shape-shifts to reveal that he is actually Peter. Peter hits Sylar with a heavy tranquilizer, and knocks him out.
Angela and Bennet convince Matt to use his powers to rewrite Sylar’s brain into believing himself to be Nathan Petrelli, reasoning that if the world finds out a person with abilities killed a US Senator, there will end up being a thousand Danko’s out there hunting them down. Matt proceeds to do as they ask as Sylar’s past is taken away, erased, and replaced with Nathan’s. As he awakens and shifts into Nathan, Nathan/Sylar truly believes himself to be Nathan Petrelli. Using the body of the original shapeshifter, they burn the body as Claire, Peter, Ando, and Hiro watch, thankful that Sylar is truly dead now, not knowing the ruse taking place. Ando and Hiro decide to go home, Matt returns to Janice, and Peter, Nathan, Angela and Bennet start up a new Company, with full funding by the president.
Elsewhere, a former Building 26 agent returns home to find his sink overflowing, when suddenly a familiar face appears from the water, telling him he is number 4. The next morning Nathan reads about a 4th mysterious drowning victim as Angela comes in to see him, telling him she hasn’t heard from in weeks. He says he hasn’t felt like himself lately, and notices a clock on the mantle that he goes to and says seems to be running fast. He fixes the clock’s hands and then, seemingly back to a normal Nathan, starts to talk about their plans for lunch as Angela looks on, worried.
