Volume: One
Written by: Tim Kring
Directed by: Allan Arkush
Original airdate: May 7, 2007
Synopsis:
As DL lies in pain, cradled by Niki, he tells her to escape, with her telling him to phase them through the wall. As the guards bust through the door, DL summons up his strength and gets them both phased through and safe. She leaves DL so she can find Micah but upon entering his room finds herself face to face with herself, or Candice disguised as her. Candice/Niki shows Niki a dead Micah and then goads Niki into feeling bad about herself and her choices, smashing her into a mirror. Niki looks down and sees Jessica in the reflection, telling her that she isn’t talking to her and to fight back. Niki gets up and summons Jessica’s strength, knocking her out as she reverts back to her Candice form.
Bennett holds his gun towards Molly with Mohinder asking him if he would sacrifice one girl’s life to save another as Bennett responds that it will save thousands if he does. A groan from Matt, who was hit on the head by Mohinder, startles Molly as she looks under the bed to see him, calling out to him, and telling Bennet and Mohinder that this is her hero and he told her that he would make sure no one would hurt her, calming everyone down in the situation. Mohinder helps Bennett get Thompson hidden but Parkman rushes in to tell them something is happening to Molly. Mohinder gives Molly another transfusion of his blood, with Bennett hoping she can use her power to find people sooner rather than later so they can find Sylar, noting that there is someone out there even worse than Sylar.
Hiro starts to rush out to find Ando and stop him from getting killed by Sylar, but his father warns him that this is not his problem now, that he has a different path to follow, but Hiro refuses to give up on his friend. His father somewhat respects his choice and presents the sword to him.
Angela goes to Nathan and tells him of Linderman’s death, saying that it doesn’t change anything because the plan wasn’t just his own, and to carry on with everything.
Peter, after talking with Bennett, takes Claire to see Nathan, hoping he will help them, but Claire is shocked he would turn to him, not trusting him. Peter talks with Nathan while Claire slips away, only to be captured by Angela. Peter hears Nathan’s thoughts and realizes that Nathan will do nothing to stop the explosion and runs off himself, collapsing in the alleyway after his hands start to glow with Ted’s powers again. As Angela and Nathan walk away with Claire, Bennett calls and tells Claire to go with them to find safety but get away when she is able. He then tells Parkman that they have to find Peter as he is the only one who could stop Sylar now.
Claire talks with Nathan and Angela, trying to get Nathan to change his mind and help Peter, but he remains steadfast that he can’t. Angela tells her that they’re offering her the family she always wanted, a place to belong, but Claire says she already has a family, jumping out the window, landing on the ground far below, healing herself, and running away.
With Parkman having gone off on his own to find Sylar, Mohinder gets Molly to safety but finds the injured DL and Mohinder stops to help him with Molly keeping a lookout. Niki and Micah return and together the five of them escape with Micah using his ability to get the elevator working again.
Ando finds Sylar in Isaac’s loft and attempts to attack him but Sylar brushes him off, using his powers to throw the sword aside and pins Ando against the wall, starting to cut his neck, telling him he doesn’t need his brain. Suddenly Hiro appears behind Sylar and baits the time traveler, asking him if he thinks he could get his ability off before him. Hiro vanishes quickly, appears next to Ando and teleports them both away before Sylar can do anything. They end up back in their work offices, with Hiro thanking Ando for showing him what bravery is, and that he must finish this alone.
Peter, while passed out, has another vision of himself on his first day of working for Charles Deveaux, and is shocked when the man tells his mother that he doesn’t agree with Lindeman’s vision, and then tells Vision Peter that he can see him. Vision Deveaux talks with Peter and tells him that he is there to hear the truth so he could save the world, learning that he always had the power but just needed to learn how to use it. Deveaux tells him that his ability to love unconditionally is what will save them all. Peter awakens from his vision to see Bennett standing over him, telling him that Nathan and Claire are on their way out of the city with Nathan’s mother and together they both head to Kirby Plaza.
Once there, Bennett is attacked by Sylar and tossed to the side as Sylar uses his telekinesis to lift Peter up. Parkman arrives and fires shots at Sylar but again, Sylar uses his power to stop the bullets and send them right back at Parkman. Niki arrives and grabs a parking meter that Sylar just hammered Peter with and she clobbers Sylar, knocking him to the ground before Micah calls for her to come back and help DL. Peter stands off to attack Sylar but his hands start to glow and he loses control, panicking. Sylar tells him that it’s Peter who was meant to be the villain as Hiro appears, and runs at Sylar, impaling him with the sword. Peter tells Hiro to kill him so he doesn’t explode, but Sylar tosses Hiro away, pushing Hiro to teleport away again. Sylar falls from his injury, his eyes flashing through the people whose abilities he stole, before they go completely white and seemingly lifeless.
Bennett recovers and grabs his gun and starts to aim it at Peter to kill him, but Claire arrives, and takes it to get closer to Peter to shoot him. She cries as she asks him if there's another way but Peter says there isn’t and to finish it. Nathan suddenly flies down, tells Claire that the future isn’t written in stone, and that he isn’t leaving Peter. Peter protests, saying that Nathan will die, but Nathan says that Peter saved the cheerleader so that they could save the world, grabbing his brother and flying high into the sky where a giant explosion occurs, while everyone on the ground looks up.
Cops and ambulances arrive, carrying Parkman off while Molly begs him to not die while Bennett tells Claire it’s time to go home. When she questions him, due to their house being destroyed, he tells her home is wherever their family is together, while nearby, a long blood stain where Sylar fell, leads to a nearby manhole cover, slightly ajar, as a single cockroach crawls on top of it.
Elsewhere, Hiro stands up from wherever he teleported to, seeing a great grassy field all round him, before turning to see a number of ancient samurai warriors standing above him on horseback. He turns around to see a single samurai in the distance, who raises his sword, complete with the helix symbol on it, ready to fight, as high above, a solar eclipse begins to occur.
