Vampires Suck primarily parodies Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon. It was released just 2 months after The Twilight Sage: Eclipse.
On a budget of $20M it grossed $81.4M.
This is Matt Lanter's second film for Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, having previously appeared in Disaster Movie (2008). He later appeared alongside Anna Kendrick in Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).
For the opening scene in which Edward strips off in broad daylight, Matt Lanter was actually nude with a real glitterball covering his crotch.
A parody version of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is featured in the movie. The October 1, 1999 issue of Entertainment Weekly featured Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, wearing a sleeveless blouse with "Vampires Suck" written on it.
Charlie Webber played Ben in season 5 of Buffy, and appears in this movie as Jack (the parody of James in Twilight). Arielle Kebbel, who played Rachel (the parody of Victoria) also played a vampire in The Vampire Diaries TV show.
The film received no advance screenings for critics. Unsurprisingly, the critics hammered it. Pete Travers of the Rolling Stone wrote a four-word review of the film: "This movie sucks more."
