Synopsis:
As voting day has arrived for Eureka, a number of candidates are in the running such as Vincent with Fargo as his driving force, Lucas with Zoe as his manager who also blows off her school lab partner Kylie to run the campaign, and a scientist named Dr. Paulo Herrera, who has managed to use a device of his own to manipulate the clouds and have them form his face in them as an advertisement. Zane shows up to reveal that he grabbed some negatives from Eva’s secret bunker’s secret security cams.
Eva asks Allison to endorse Dr. Herrera but Allison asks her about the bunker and she tells her they found bariogenic radiation and thus wants to thermal clean the whole facility which will destroy any organic material inside.
As debates for the Mayor candidates begin, a second sun appears outside, heating things up in the town. They head out to Dr. Herrera’s cloud farm where he has been experimenting with cloud seeding but he denies having anything to do with the second sun.
Fargo asks Zane to use his beta test experiment that somehow keeps things cool in extreme temperatures and while he declines to help, Fargo grabs a sample of the experiment on his way out. Armed with the fluid, he and Vincent stay cool outside and hand out iced mochas to persuade voters while Zoe hands out Lucas-branded sunscreen. Kylie shows up to tell Zoe she has had a small issue with their class project that she bailed on, revealing that she is responsible for creating the second sun.
Allison helps Lexi out with an ultrasound and reveals she’s pregnant with twin boys.
Meanwhile, Vincent and Fargo find that someone took Vincent’s photos of the town founders that were displayed on Cafe Diem’s walls, blaming Eva.
Due to the missing photos, the closed down Eureka museum, the developed negatives and Allison’s findings that Eureka’s old receipts show that the scientists in 1939 were buying ingredients for hydrogen fusion bombs, Jack, Zane, Jo, and Allison head down to the bunker and use a gizmo of Zane’s to discover skeletons buried underneath the floor. Eva shows up with guards and orders them to leave and though there’s a brief standoff, our gang gives up and leaves, but not before Zane secretly removes the recordings he just took so they can view them later. Henry discovers that while the bodies died in 1939 around age 35-45, the remains are reading that they are closer to 80.
Allison faces off against Eva but she keeps claiming it’s classified information, not giving her much at all.
As the sun gets hotter, not burning itself out as some expected, Kylie reveals a lot of excess hydrogen in the air which is likely the cause of the new sun, leading them back to Herrera. They discover that Kylie’s sun has now begun turning into a red super giant sun which will soon blow up and destroy the town. Jack retrieves Zane’s cooling beta experiment from Fargo while Zane, Henry and Kylie are developing plan to shoot iron atoms into the sun to cause the it to implode, but Eva orders evacuation, not caring if the town gets destroyed, while Allison and Jack are adamant they can save the people and research both.
As the town evacuates, the candidates begin arguing about who is the best choice to fix the problem until Henry steps up and scolds them all for acting selfishly.
Jo talks to Zane and kisses him deeply before he starts to head off with Jack to launch the atoms. Eva confronts Jack about why he’s still there instead of evacuating and he turns it around on her for still being there too. He tells Jo to make sure Eva is evacuated with everyone else and he and Zane try launching the atoms, but the heat causes the circuits to fry and it fails. Kylie suggests Herrera’s cloud seeding machine and after their car tires melt from the extreme heat, by rubbing Zane’s cooling liquid on themselves, Jack and Zane are able to run and get to his greenhouse, launch the atoms into the sky, and watch as the sun implodes.
Eva confronts Allison but she defends her decisions as Eva threatens her to stay out of her way.
The town rejoices being saved and as the election results come in, Henry surprisingly wins due to the majority writing his name in as a candidate, a movement organized by Lex herself and personally endorsed by Jack. Henry accepts the honor.
Advanced Research:
Oz Scott directed Lois & Clark season 4 episode “Bob and Carol and Lois and Clark” (Clark and Lois have a lot in common with their new neighbors, until they find out Bob is an assassin whose next target is an eccentric recluse Lois plans to interview).
Dean Marshall played Paulo Herrera. He’s a working actor, whose main claim to fame was 10 episodes as a main supporting character in The 100 in later seasons. He also appeared in Stargate, the DaVinci procedurals, and as a frat boy in Tommy Boy.

Synopsis:
As Jo commiserates with Zoe about how her and Zane are somewhat on the rocks, Jack, Allison, and Henry try to come up with a way to autopsy the bodies that Eva found, with Jack asking Fargo to enhance the campaign photos to try and figure out who was in the founders pictures that Eva removed from Cafe Diem, eventually discovering that a woman who looked like Eva was in those pictures. Allison uses a gizmo to change the delivery address for the exhumed bodies to go to Henry’s garage instead of a military base so he can figure out what happened.
Zoe and Lucas arrive home to the bunker, SARAH recognizes Zoe as an intruder and stuns her inside of a force field. Jack arrives and they shut down SARAH until Fargo can reset it, who confirms that SARAH’s scan was correct, Zoe’s DNA has somehow changed.
Jo investigates Dr. Hendricks, the outside contractor that Eva hired, and they discover a remote detonator capsule with empty boxes showing that there are many others that must be in obvious use. As she and Zane try to figure out what is in the container, Jack triggers it accidentally and it releases a sort of glue that bonds Jo and Zane together by their feet, unable to be removed.
Jack confronts Eva, explaining that he met Hendricks and talked to Mansfield who had no idea of what Eva was doing and was unaware of the underground facility. Henry discovers that the bodies died by rapidly aging, aging decades in just a month. After Zoe reveals that she can’t see, he confirms that Zoe has developed cataracts, due to her exposure to the purple liquid in the underground facility.
Jack goes to the bunker to try and find a sample of the goo that Henry can use to create an antidote to save Zoe, but instead finds Eva. She warns him to get out but it’s too late as Hendricks sets off the explosion causing his Instantanium to activate and seal off the entire facility forever.
Eva goes full exposition extra and explains how she came to town to bury the past and herself. She reveals her real name and how she worked at the facility back in the 30’s and that her brother was the lead scientist working on atom bombs using a rare element found in meteorites. That process created Element X, the purple goo which she, her brother, and two other scientists who were also exposed to it, were tasked with studying it, learning that it was aging them, but that luckily, Eva’s DNA was so unique that it caused her to actually slow down her aging. The scientists eventually locked themselves in the facility while Eva, her exposure kept a secret, was able to leave. She studied her brother’s papers on the element and learned they had come close to finding a cure. She gives Jack her sample of the purple goo in hopes that it can help Zoe if they can manage to get it out of the sealed bunker. Unfortunately, the Instantanium cracked the chamber storing Element X, causing it seep into Eureka’s groundwater.
Hendricks works with Zane to develop a way to break the Instatanium. Once they succeed, they use it to release themselves and to open a way into the bunker to get Jack and Eva out. Eva reveals that the scientists developed a bomb but Jack reasons that it might be a bomb that could release an antidote to Element X. They detonate the bomb and it saves the town, Zoe included.
Zane and Jo renew their relationship, Alison reveals to Jack that she’s pregnant with Stark’s child, and General Mansfield fires Jack, angry that he and Henry arranged for Eva to get away to start a new life, with them seeing her as more of a victim than a fugitive.
Advanced Research:
Dr. Hendricks was played by David Richmond-Peck. He’s a supporting actor on most of his work, appearing on shows like V, Cardinal, Dark Matter, and Orphan Black, though he was slightly higher up in the cast list on the show Robson Arms.
