Later, Mohinder calls Bennett and tells him he is in, with Bennett warning him to be careful, confident that they will soon be able to take the company down.
In Honduras, Maya and her brother Alejandro are on the run from the police, trying to escape homicide charges, making their way to America. They manage to find a ride with other wanna be immigrants, but the driver demands that Maya ride with him up front, punching Alejandro and driving away with her leaving the two siblings distraught for some reason. When Alejandro manages to catch up with the truck, he sees the people in the back and the two drivers are all dead, a thick black liquid emerging from their mouths and eyes. Alejandro says they need to get somewhere safe and then they will bury the bodies.
Hiro falls from the sky and lands on the grass in ancient Japan, seeing a sword wielding figure on a horse nearby. Immediately a group of enemy Japanese warriors appear and shoot their arrows toward Hiro and the other man. Hiro stops time, and after seeing the man’s weapons and flag emblazoned with the helix symbol, realizes that this is Takezo Kensei. Hiro is in awe of the man, but he quickly learns that Kensei is less of a hero and more of a scam artist. The man reveals himself to be British, and more interested in relaxing and taking the easy way out of things to earn money, laughing at the idea that he is a hero. When the swordsmith’s daughter shows up, she takes back the sword her father forged for the battle, and decides that she will have to go and rescue her kidnapped father since Kensei is not interested. Hiro tries to talk to Kensei again, but he just gets knocked out by the man.
Claire begins a new year at her new school in Costa Verde California and quickly draws the attention of a boy named West who asks her if she is a robot or an alien, believing that everyone falls into one of the two categories. Later, Claire defends a classmate against the cheerleaders, but has to give in when she can’t reveal her athletic abilities. Later when she is alone, she attempts the stunt the cheerleaders were trying earlier and ends up breaking her leg which quickly heals. West comes in and asks her why she’s still here, but it’s not clear if he saw the injury or not.
Mr. Bennet finds himself unable to escape the allure of paper and works at a local copy shop, having to deal with the obnoxious manager who seems to relish in giving him a hard time. Eventually, Bennett strikes out against the man, holding him on top of a table using his skills, frightening the man as he tells him to leave him alone.
Parkman finds himself in the middle of a hostage situation, successfully saving the victim, when it’s all revealed to be a mere exercise. Parkman is then rewarded with the job of detective and goes to pick up Molly from school. Her teacher shows him some drawings that Molly keeps making of two eyes and the helix symbol and says she’s concerned, especially since Molly is falling asleep in class and falling behind. Matt tries to talk with Molly about it but since he won’t discuss his use of powers during the detective exams, the two argue and she goes to eat alone in her room. Later after she falls asleep, she starts having a recurring nightmare. Matt tries to hear her thoughts but doesn’t get much when she suddenly awakens, very scared, and grabbing onto Matt for dear life.
A disheveled and drunken Nathan shows up at Peter’s apartment, and finds his mother there, telling her to leave Peter’s stuff alone because he will want it when he returns. Angela is angry that Nathan didn’t follow the plan to get elected and he kicks her out, with her finding a picture of herself on the wall in the hallway, a helix symbol covering her face. Nathan heads to a bar, where he takes a call from Claire, hoping to talk to him about things, but he refuses, hanging up. As he looks in the mirror, for a brief second he sees his face horribly scarred.
Ando talks with Mr. Nakamura who says he will wait for Hiro to return so that he can pass on his legacy to him. Ando gives him the morning's paper, but a picture of Mr. Nakamura falls out of it, a helix drawn across it. He reveals to Ando that this means he will die within 24 hours, but Ando wants to help. The man tells him to get him a sword and Ando leaves. Meanwhile, Mr Nakamura meets with Angela, discussing their original group of 12 people that is now down to 9 after the deaths of Linderman, Deveaux, and Papa Petrelli. He tells her he is leaving the country, suggesting she do the same. Later, up on the roof, Mr Nakamura turns to see a hooded figure coming towards him, surprised it is that particular person. Ando arrives but too late to help as the hooded man runs towards Mr. Nakamura and the two fall over the edge of the roof. Ando looks down to only see the dead body of Mr Nakamura.
In Ireland, a group of thieves are looking for a cargo container that is supposed to have a shipment of iPods within it. Instead, they find Peter, chained to the wall, wearing a necklace with the helix on it. As the one man tries to threaten him, Peter lashes out and his powers send the man flying away. The other man asks him who he is and Peter can only respond that he doesn’t know.

Synopsis:
Peter awakens to find himself tied to a chair, being questioned by a man named Ricky, and the men who found him earlier. They ask him where he took their iPods, the items that are supposed to be in the shipping crate they found him in, but Peter has no memory of iPods or even who he is himself, leaving the men to beat him up yet again. Later, Caitlin, Ricky’s sister, comes to see Peter and asks him about his helix necklace, but he of course knows nothing about it. She starts to wash him up as they discuss what happened and Peter says he thinks the spark that hurt one of the men came from him. Caitlin is astonished as she cleans his wounds only to find that he is already completely healed.
Later, Caitlin is cleaning up at the pub when some guys show up, looking to get some action from her, but Peter finds himself phasing through his bonds, and sending a charge of lightning towards one of the men. Another man lifts a rifle, but Peter uses telekinesis to send it flying away. The man tries to attack Peter physically, but he finds himself punched by Peter’s great strength.
Ricky arrives later, angry that Peter beat up the men, saying it has turned their families against each other now and shows Peter a box that contains information and everything they found on Peter, telling him his real name, offering it in exchange for his help pulling off another heist, or he will burn the box.
Investigating the death of Nakamura, Matt and Detective Fuller find a fingerprint belonging to Angela Petrelli. They question Ando, showing him the photo of Nakamura dead, with the helix drawn on it. Ando explains it is a kanji that means godsend, great ability, and is the crest of a famous Japanese hero, Takezo Kensei. Later, Matt and Fuller begin interrogating Angela, with Matt picking up her thoughts about having done something terrible with the others and someone wanting revenge. Angela realizes what Matt is doing and thinks loudly at him to get out of her head, speaking aloud that she wants her lawyer. Nathan arrives to bail out his mother, mentioning that he doesn’t want to see her. Nathan recognizes Matt from their earlier encounter, but a scream distracts them as they find Angela desperately fighting against something unseen that is attacking her. Matt, unable to open the room Angela is in, breaks the glass and they enter to find her with injuries and no one else there, except a photo of Angela with the helix symbol on it.
Meanwhile, Hiro continues to try and convince Kensei to be a hero and save Yaeko, but Kensei couldn’t care less as Hiro tries to sober him up to no avail. Seeing Kensei’s armor nearby, he dons it himself, galloping off on his horse. He finds Yaeko facing off against White Beard and faces him, using his powers to take their swords, and then also their bows, as the samurai run away. Hiro, still in disguise, flirts with Yaeko, and offers to give her a ride with him. As they ride, their flirtation continues, and at one point she wants to raise his mask, but he freezes time and disappears as the cherry blossoms fall all around her.
Later, Hiro finds Kensei and he hits Hiro, mad that he took his armor, but Hiro explains what he did and how Kensei is now seen as a great warrior for what he did. Yaeko then runs up and gifts Kensei her father’s sword once again, telling him that they must now go rescue her father. Kensei, seeing even greater reward by trusting Hiro, agrees to go along. Once they find the samurai however, Kensei is shot by their arrows and falls to the ground, apparently dying as Hiro panics. His fear is short lived however as Kensei’s wound begins to heal itself, with Hiro watching in great astonishment.
Maya and Alejandro make their way to a woman, Nidia, who knew them as children and she helps hide them, promising to help them get to Mexico. A healer shows up with some others, planning to also cross into Mexico, and asks to try and help Maya but as she attempts it, she senses blackness in her, enough to kill the Devil and backs away in fear, calling her cursed, refusing to go with them. Later at night, Maya and Alejandro accompany Nidia to the tunnel to cross to Mexico, but the two women are separated from Alejandro as the police near. Nidia presses Maya to move but she wants to desperately wait for her brother as the woman starts to bleed black liquid from her eyes. Maya tells her to run but she just falls to her knees, as Maya begins praying. Alejandro eventually manages to make it through and the black tears on Nidia's face disappear. She rises up and calls them both cursed, running away.
Back at home, Claire and her parents discuss how it’s difficult to lay low in high school sometimes, with Bennett telling her he is doing what he can to lay low to keep their family safe, asking her to try and do the same. Meanwhile, Sandra notices the newspaper, showing her husband that Mr. Nakamura has died, and when he says he knew that happened, she tells him to remember that he promised her no more secrets. He shows her one of Isaac’s paintings depicting the death of Mr. Nakamura, and tells her that there were seven other paintings like this and he intends to find them all.
Bob sends Mohinder to Haiti to help a man with abilities who is now infected with the virus, unable to use his powers. Once he gets there, he sees it is The Haitian. The man refuses Mohinder’s cure, saying he abused God’s gift to him and deserves this, but Mohinder counters that maybe his own blood was sent to The Haitian by God to cure him and he acquiesces. Eventually, the cure works and the Haitian is back to normal, powers intact. Mohinder tells him that the company he works for would like him to come see them for observation, stating that the virus could be becoming worse. The Haitian understands what Mohinder means by The Company and uses his powers to make Mohinder forget he was there. Bob arrives to tell him that he’s been out of touch for hours, upset that The Haitian got away, but learned that Mohinder’s blood cure worked. The Haitian however, has made his way to California, and makes contact with Mr. Bennett.
At school, Claire gets into a discussion with her science teacher about genetics and abilities, as West stares at her. Later he seemingly plans a run-in with Claire, and strikes up a conversation with her about what she said in class, telling her that she seems to hide everything that is interesting about her, figuring she was just a typical high school girl, and telling her he has been into genetics himself lately after finding a book called Activating Evolution. Remembering her father’s words, she dismisses his attempt to rizz her up for a date, only to find that her car, gifted to her by her father, was stolen. Claire goes to talk to him and the two get into an argument about how she feels her ability could possibly help people and heal them, but he tells her that if she is found by The Company, they will push her so far beyond her limits that she will wish for death.
Back at the Bennett’s household, Clair conducts an experiment and cuts off her toe, to find it suddenly grows back like new. As she stares at this discovery, Mr. Muggles barks suddenly, revealing West watching her outside her window. She runs outside, but he jumps up into the air and away.

Graphic Novels: Flying Blind / The Crossroads
In Flying Blind, an unknown boy flies above the town of Costa Verde in California, contemplating his world, describing how he feels when flying and then describing his method of categorizing people as either robots or aliens. Robots follow a set path and work on logic while aliens are more random and likely to look up out down when it suits them. The boy decides he would rather be alone than surrounded by robots and lands at his school, finding the new girl Claire, and deciding she looks like she might be one to look up once in a while, says good morning while in his head he asks her out.
In The Crossroads, we find Mohinder and The Haitian having concocted a plan to fool the company into thinking Mohinder was attacked by him. Instead, the virus-ridden Haitian has returned to his village to pray to the Loa and get their blessing, wanting his life to count for something good. He is faced down by the ghosts of those he helped the Company recruit but eventually receives the blessing he sought, with the Loa, in the form of his father, telling him he has remembered the ground from which he was born, revealing a small depiction of the helix on the ground.
